:o Yes, I can't believe they did this! It's so freaking awesome!

I hate size 30 glowy shadow font in red and blue and yellow and other horrible colours I can't read, and especiallywhen they have emoticons that make it sparkle, its just so stupid and annoying.

You can still customize your font with a lot of colours and stuff, I do it all the time on MSN and AIM!

If you don't like it, get over it....Because you won't have a greater chance of having a seizure anymore!!

I know i was sooo happy.
I did a little dance (then again i do that a lot)

Legibility is my friend.
Honestly i don't think that the neoboards needed the html font features -- it just made things ugly and illegible.
Not to mention that there are way too many things that operate using only IE. This is one of the most annoying things about microsoft, while i think they're a good company their browser continuiously breaks web standards (like with tables and css).

umm i'll stop now

Now if only they would put stricter limits on max font size

Side note -- gota "love" how neoboards idiots are complaining that the people who's browers couldn't display the fonts were "lazy" or think that neopets will care if they set their fonts white in some lame form of protest.

Its a good thing they removed those fonts. I only checked out the boards a couple of times and those fonts were very annoying and hard on the eyes. Most of what is said on those boards is extremely pointless and borderline childish. People that cry about not being able to use a certain font need to grow up and accept change a little. I'd be afraid to see what happened if TNT decided to dicontinue avatars on the boards.

I'll accept that the fonts were hard to read, didn't display properly, etc. Many of these complaints are valid and I support them wholeheartedly.

What I am mad about is TNT's line of reasoning,. They say "People using other browsers such as Mozilla or Netscape were unable to read anything written using those effects." And that isn't true. I use Firefox 0.9.3 and there have been individual fonts where I have needed to highlight. It averages 1 per fifty (which is saying a lot, cos I read an average of four or five boards a week...). My younger siblings, who run Netscape 7.1 on Win98, have not had trouble reading fonts. Again, they may have had to highlight a few, but that wasn't a major inconvenience.

It's true that Mozilla and Netscape do not support the glow/shadow effects, but saying that those users were "unable to read anything written using those effects" is a lie. All that's happened was the font was rendered using the first color in the neoHTML sequence. So if it was a white font with an orange glow and red shadow, it would show (stick with me...) as white. Same with any other color combination.

Disabling the glow and shadow because TNT doesn't want to deal with compatibility issues is one thing. Telling us that wouod have been fine. everyone knows that TNT doesn't have enough staff to deal with that problem in addition to 15 others that crop up every second. Telling us that the glow/shadow effects made text illegible in Mozilla/Netscape is a lie. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I object to shadow/glow removal.

Although I agree that some of the fonts were illegible, I am sad by the removal of glow/shadow. Here was my neoboard font:

Quote:
[i}[glow c=black w=300 s=2]neoHTML[/glow]{/i]

I loved it. Yellow is my favorite color and I was finally able to use it in my font because of the black glow. It made the yellow font readable and neat looking. Without the glow, my font is just yellow and hard to read. The removal actually made my font color unusable. :( I admit that I did not use the neoboards often, but when I did, I loved my font.

I'm ecstatic. Glow fonts drove me nuts.

*peeks at the Neoboards*

Eh. I'll probably still stay a lurker, lol.

they should also remove white font as well...it's irritating and players were using it to disturb others. for example, a popular prank is to place "reported" in prominent fonts above or below a "white" message

Yay, I didn't like glowy fonts. It was annoying with bright pink and bright yellow, it burnt my eyes. Especially because I go to the Neopian Writers board and I like reading people's stories.
Also, if you want to have an original font/sig just do what I did, and make something like Mr Box
╔═══╗
║סּ_סּ ║
╚═══╝
(Might not work right) He's in my siggy ^_^

I applaud TNT's decision to remove the glow and shadow fonts. I can actually read the boards now! I've been a long-time Netscape user (it is MUCH more secure than IE), and I had to highlight so many messages to even read the boards. It was irritating. The rare times that I do use IE as my browser, I found the glow and shadow fonts irritating and hard to read. Thanks TNT!! :)

I can't say anything without simply repeating what someone else has already said, so I'm just going to say one word and put all my feeling into it.

Finally.

Although there were quite a few unreadable fonts, some looked nice.

I used a glow when I started out on neopets, with a sparkle. ^^ But then it hurt my eyes and I changed to normal.

Now I used a small red font that matched my Vira avatar.

I', a little sad about it because I liked to have my font match my avatar. Not so much on the Neoboards but the guild boards were a fun place to use wacky fonts.

ANyway, nothing to be done about it I guess.

i see why they did it, it was unreadable on netscape *explains a great deal now* but all my other several browers coped okay, opera worked for example, and so did firefox, but i'm glad more boards will be easier to read *not really like i go there* but i still will miss my new font that someone made for me to go with my cybunny avvy :( on my guild board, because we are private, and we try not to overly annoy other people, its was good, because the posts were readbale, but neoboards, yeck. glow and shadow definitely needed to go.

but i'm still sad about my guild font

If you see my sanity, get it to give me a call.

Wheeee!!!! I actually said "Oh, you sweethearts!!" out loud when I read that part of the news :P

I don't really visit the neoboards but in my guild, quite a few people have annoying fonts that, although nicely matching their avatar, are difficult to read, and despite me using IE, I often had to highlight them to be able to read them. I use the Turtum av, and I just have a maroonish plain font that matches the avatar and looks nice without requiring anyone to highlight.

Things are so much simpler now.. but I do agree that they need to fix the limits on font sizes. I also wish TNT hadn't spoilt my good feeling about them yesterday by messing with BD abilities, but that's another matter :P

Yes, I realized that FireFox didn't show glow or shadow correctly, so I usually use IE when playing Neopets, and FireFox anywhere else.

I support this decision, but I'm still using IE for playing Neopets. Reason: Fonts are warped. Font size 1 is a lot smaller in FireFox than size 1 in IE. Font size 5 is a lot larger in FireFox than in IE. There are also alignment issues.

Stupid Macro$haft.

Oh, and, btw, I had a black glow on red text, so it was readable in both browsers.

And, I wanted to add, for those of you complaining that IE has features that no other browsers have, you should look more carefully. Glow and Shadow are both specified in CSS, whose rules are maintained by the W3C, not Macro$haft. The reason that IE is the only browser that has that feature is because Macro$haft is the only company that has figured out how to do it. The same goes for colored scrollbars.

However, it is interesting to note that the only browser I've seen that allows for submenus is Internet Explorer for Macintosh. (No Windows browser known can have submenus, because the Windows GUI doesn't allow for submenus in drop-down lists.)
