Well, I guess TNT has to put in the cutesy stuff to lure the young ones, who are the targets of the numerous advertisements Neopets endorses.

So long as they don't ruin any of the robot/mutant and most the good halloween pets I'll be fine :D

I did think the lupe revamp was a little too plushy like. I prefered the old one. But I guess the majority likes it that way.

Don't get me wrong. I like cute stuff. But cute in a natural noble way. Like the handsome wolf guarding his/her terotory.

Lets just hope they get the male faeries in ;)

I have to agree, it's getting a bid too cutesy. I watched South park (violence, offensive language etc) when I was only eight! (two years older, Zero :x beat by the best)

But come on, what if a little girl of the age of 5 came and saw some porn?

I think TNT don't believe adults will play a virtual pet game, so they depend on the little kids. They expect the children to support them, and buy their merchandise in reality.

And that Wocky Beast....it's just...sick. Especially its right eye (from its unside-down point of view). Erm........I have no idea how it could be a hero too....

If you ask me, as Neopets grows more, so does the 'maturity' of the site. Neopets is getting more adult.

On a side-'thing', I also read that article a few months ago and was scared out of my wits, I had to sing when I was alone. I always believe singing scares of spirits/ghosts etc. :o

I like pickles, I like cheese, I like climbing lobster trees!

To be honest. What would a little girl of 5 be doing on neopets unsupervised anyway? Parents need to stop thinking that the internet is like an interactive TV.

I think a lot of websites are looked on by parents as a nanny for their kids. As a result the rules *Waves fist at ENT* are ridiculous and petty. But thats another storey eh.

What's wrong with cute? Everyone who doesn't want cute pets, what happened to Mutant, Darigan, Halloween, Ghost? Skieths look fierce *although I personally hate the revamp*

I like fiercer pets too, but you've got to think that the majority of the site like cute. I hated both the Lupe and Kougra revamps; but alot of people liked them, and voted for that number for the Kougra.

i agree with the reasoning for generating more cute stuff. there's probably another reason in that it is less restrictive than morbid, hellish or other flavour that appeal to adults. with those protective parents supervising their kids on neopets these days, it is hard to be creative in making the site more adult oriented w/o facing censorship and complaints. in a nutshell, it is always "safe" to get "a bit too cutesy" but never if it is the opposite.

I don't really agree with you. The cute stuff, and the not cute stuff are on the same level, maybe there are more cute stuff on neopets than other non cute stuff, but it's not all cutesy.
Most of the people who play are young, so the made the site more children friendly, but there are still lots of things more adult players can do. I don't really see why people have such a big problem with cute stuff, if you don't like cute item, than don't have that item, if you don't like a cute neopet, than don't own a cute neopet, it's that simple...

Frankly I have never forgiven them for chaning the mutant chia - originally my whole REASON for playing - and there is still absolutely nothing on neopets I find even half as cool as the original version...except perhaps the mutant slorg and the intesteen, but those are only petpets!

So to me, no, there really isn't anything totally un-cute as far as neopets go.

Its probably more cartoony over cute, even though I'm still a little upset of how they have toned down the site over the years...honestly it hasn't degraded anything on neopets itself though. Besides the way things look, the games and other things are better then ever (well except the battledome, they've butchered it lately) I use to whine and complaion about cute and cartoony, b tu I think I'll just shut it because thats how its gonna be, neopets is still fun and I think I'm just content with that.

Um, the name of the site is NEOPETS. It's a friggin' cartoon site for kids of all ages.

If you don't like cute, then I suggest you not play Neopets. Instead you should play Doom or Quake which are more suited for your non-cute needs..

Most of the content and storylines and such aren't cute. It's just the pets and such. There are plenty of non-cute things like battle items though they can't have brutal items since the parents might sue them

I don't have problem with cuteness - however, I find it totally annoying that all of the revamped pets & the newer petpets have those overly big puppy eyes - I totally hate overly big puppy eyes.

:x

grrr... must.... not.... think..... about.... puppy eyes

*dreads the aisha revamp*

That's a bit harsh don't you think? I mean, you said it yourself, neopets is a site for kids of all ages. I don't think most people would suggest any type of horrible nightmare inducing images or anything that wouldn't be appropriate for little children, but at the same time it's a bit of a slap in the face to see a site you know was always overly cutesy suddenly start treating you like you can't handle anything that isn't wrapped in love and cotton candy.

I agree that neopets is, in general, moving in a too cutesy direction. Not everything is so, but you can sense a shift. Donna even commented about it in the editorial not too long ago and agreed that things were, unintentionally, getting too cutesy. I believe that all normal colored pets should be a nice balance in the middle. Then there are paint brushes like baby and faerie to satisfy your custey needs and darigan and mutant for those who like the other end of the spectrum.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. People don't give children enough credit.

You're right, they have put some effort into into making the content not all fluff and lollipops, but the images really need to move that way too. Sure, things like neoquest and the battledome are fun and not aimed at wittle bitty babies, but it's difficult to get someone to even try playing them when, upon arrival at the site, they are greeted with cutesy wootsy images shoved in their face.

I think that neopets has had a good blaance of cute, anit-cute, and inbetween for a while now and I just hope that it can stop this shift and maintain that all around awesomeness.

Have you seen the commercial for the computers at college (can't remember which PC now), but there's this 'goth' girl and a 'preppy' girl who end up sharing a room, but find they have the computer in common. (everybody now... awwww...)

Anyways, my point, even at the same age some people are just completely different. A college age girl could love the baby uni because it reminds her of her My Little Pony she had as a kid, and the girl next to her could love the mutant lenny because it looks like an awesome vulture.

I am BOTH girls ^^ I love Leamar, my mutant lenny *she rox my sox*, and I have a uni pet on another account I plan to paint baby, once I save up enough to buy that baby pb (or Boochi zaps her *hint hint Boochi*... heh.

To each his (or her) own, I think Neo has a pretty good mix of cute and, um... not so cute. :D

Neopets is getting WAY to cutsey and perfect. There is almost NOTHING morbid and non-cutsey on the site. What WAS morbid and non-cutsey has been archived (like Sacrificers and the Ski Lodge thingy) I mean, look at the pets! They're better drawn than the old verions, but much too cutsey and cuddly. Even the Grarrl! (the old one was much better.) And the faerie paintbrushes....yeccch. :x If I joined today and took a look at the site and the pets, I'd think it was meant for 6 year old girls. They might as well rename it Cutsey widdle pinky poo poo Pets. I know I need to get a life. I know I need to get a thesarus. I know I need to shut up and deal because the site is FREE. I'm just voicing my opinion.
