I know, its sad, isnt it? I NEVER post on the neoboards... if Adam went on there and said "everybody who posts here gets a draik egg".... well, I wouldnt post because I'd probably end up frozen in the end.

They do hire off-site staff, you need to work from home to be a mod.
A list of all available jobs can be found here:

The position of site monitor states
neopets wrote:
Schedule availability for mornings and weekends preferred. Work would be done from home, so a fast Internet connection will be required.

But I notice that in the very early hours of the morning (neopian time) that boards are not deleted, and people arent frozen or even warned for scamming or posting abusive or insulting boards.

Although you did mention something about religion, you shouldn't have been warned for it. It's a bit too much caring for such a small thing. They could try to find real scammers or hackers, instead of dealing with this. It's true, that it is a rule, but it's not like you said "God rules all the other religions suck" you just stated the word, and for a good reason.

Maybe having the mods do it from home is a problem. Maybe half of em don't know the rules...

Not saying the first thing wasn't a rule breaking. I'd be fine with that if I got a warning for it...

BUT...

I recenly got a warning on a side account (Fun account for this "jokeish" guild I made.) I had all my guild messages deleted.
Can anyone clear up wether this is normal. As in, do they delete all your messages upon a warning or do they only delete the guild ones if it was said in the guild??
Since I was warned for disscussing politics. I can't remember saying anything political on that account ever. Unless telling some kid she isn't Hillary Duff is now politics?? :D

I think it's funny now. Neopets is now my passtime when I'm sherking off work... I still abide by the rules. But only those written down! Since I am not and never will be psychic!!!

The latter. I've never been warned before, but I've had a message deleted in a guild.

Don't be afraid to see the truth, even if no one wants you to. Be yourself and not a fool. Don't ever be afraid to speak your mind and listen to criticism. Dissent is keeps our country progressive and willingness to challenge yourself is what keeps yourself ever evolving.

Thats a good point, I mean how on earth do neo even know if they are sitting in front of their computer for however many hours they claim. Or even if they are they could be playing petpet sitter instead of looking at the chat boards.

Speaking from experience, its a darn sight harder to discipline yourself to do 'work' when you are in the comfort of your own home than it is when you are in a professional environment such as an office.

I understand what you are saying with it being harder to discipline yourself at home. But from the application requirements I saw, we need more telecomuters. They are only hiring moniters for their time zone and Japan. The biggest problem is there aren't enough people on, especially at night. They are relying soley on individual reports in most cases. From what I have seen, people on the boards establish thier circle of regulars and if anyone posts something that challenges them or their friends, they report them, sometimes en masse. While I don't think that the report button should be taken away from users, I do think that they need more moniters, I would say at least 2 per board 24 hours a day. The moniters need to know the rules, and enforce them knowing that if they fail in either regard, they may lose their job (and justifiably too, after all what is it that they are being paid to do?).

I'm finally back for the summer, although hopefully I'll spend a little more time away from this screen.

If you get a warning ALL of your post (neochat an guild board post) get deleted off of the site. I had that happen to one of my guild members, she got a warning on the neochat and her guild post were also deleted.

You still have to live in the area though... They probably call them into the office once a week, or for staff meetings, etc. Which is a shame, because I'm out of work, am familiar enough with Neopets after the years, and would love the job. *sigh* But I live in Michigan...

Position: Site Monitor
Must be at least 18 years of age. Job duties include monitoring various areas of the site to keep it a fun and safe place. Rules would be enforced as necessary through our web-based administrative system. Must be responsible and conscientious. Schedule availability for mornings and weekends preferred. Work would be done from home, so a fast Internet connection will be required. Pay commensurate with experience; benefits, possible stock options and an exciting, fast paced, team oriented environment. Only local applicants, or those planning on re-locating themselves to the Los Angeles area, need apply. Familiarity with the Neopets.com site a definite plus and should be referenced in cover letter. Please forward resume, and pay/salary history and requirements to mailto:AdminJobs@neopets.com.

I feel you there. It would be a most awesome job for a lonely college student like myself who has problems getting a job due to disability. :( I wish they would impliment mods, even as a volunteer or a "Here's $50 a week to do this", I'd jump right on it!

You'd have to beat me off first!lol :P Seriously though, I think they should hire from other countries, or even other states because of the time difference, fair enough there probably are some mods on in the early hours of the morning but apparently there arent enough, cos people never seem to get frozen before 9 am! Why not hire people from a range of time zones and then the site will have wide awake people monitoring 24/7?!

It's something to bring up to Adam I guess. I'd be hard to get people I think because everyone would want it. It'd take a lot of process selection, maybe an online test of what's on the neopets site, phone interview process, so on and so on.

And so what if you can't come to meetings? Is there any reason it can't be treated like stock holders? Where you get advanced notes of the meeting and have a representative there to bring up your concerns? And then get notes of the meeting afterwards? Hmmm

And with the miracle of direct deposit, you wouldn't even have to have checks printed and mailed out! It would just go into the person's bank account and boom! Paid.

But then again, maybe I'm thinking too logically... ;)

It would be great if Neopets decided to have monitors for all time zones. I know I'm up 3 to 4 hours before they even get in the office and weekends wouldn't be a problem. Plus it would give me an excuse for when my kids want to take over the computer. ;)

I sat and read the job postings just yesterday! Saw the monitor openings and was just like *sigh* ... but I'm across the country and I sure can't afford to move to LA to be a monitor!

I am a volunteer mod on another type of forum and had an extensive phone interview, plus was on "probation" for I think 3 weeks before I was actually made a real mod. The owner, other mods kinda watched what I did, how I responded to people, when I logged in (we don't have a set schedule), etc. We do have meetings once or twice a month - via yim, more if something big is going on. And a separate mod board just for us.

I think if I remember correctly there's something about state laws re: hiring people in other states to do this type of job. I guess they're not the same for overseas (the Japan monitor job openings).

Back to the original warning and the reason for it. It may not have been an actual monitor. You typing that with the capital letter may have triggered a "filter" or a "bot" (I know - they don't exist, just like jelly world ;) ) Yes, it could have been a monitor - on their own or people could have reported. But if it was like a really fast warning? I'd lean towards something automated. This type of thing is even alluded to in the monitor job opening ads.

And the rules do clearly say no religion or politics. I have seen warnings that make you want to just smack the computer screen - like people getting warnings for telling other people to not post chains, things like that.
