I don't think you can access the portal anymore unless you do have premium. I know at one time people could at least view it, but I don't know if that's true anymore.

Who knows what brought this on ... except the legal eagles who came up with this. I still don't understand it. I guess I could if people were using the links to cheat or if people are trying to use something like the admin server -- that I'm pretty sure is a big no-no.

I do recall alot of fansites having to take "quick links" down - just the normal dailies, but that was awhile ago. Guess in this case better safe than sorry?

I still wonder about things like putting a link somewhere on a page or a forum with a BC entry, trade, a petpage, things like that. From the tone of the rule, that wouldn't be allowed at all either. It does take you somewhere inside the site, not just to the site.

Actually, my daughter just checked. She doesn't have premium, nor is she a beta-tester, but she can still get on her portal (though, without premium, it doesn't seem to be worth much)

So they are basically saying that linking to any internal pages is banned, and if you link to any of their internal pages, they will file a lawsuit against you permanently banning you from linking to any of their internal pages? Wow, nice circular logic we have here.

I say, link on! If you link, at most they get the courts to "officially" forbid you from linking. How scary.

I agree. Its just another blob of legal technobabble until they actually start to enforce it. They can have all the rules in the world, its knowing which ones you need to worry about being caught doing.

Actually I think it still would be technically. Doesn't Neopets own that name, as well as Neopests and a few others?

What I found interesting just today is that there is in place and has been a rule that there be no outside links and no clickable links are allowed anywhere on the site. And I do understand that Adam and Donna, being the creators, well, noblesse oblige (and I do think they're both fabulous beyond words). But shouldn't they set the standard for following the rules?

For example: I know someone who got a 3 day suspension. Why? Had LJ:username in their signature. That's all, just LJ and their name, no link. But got a suspension for having outside links and personal information.

As to the no posting of links within the site, yes, I'm pretty sure that hasn't been allowed for quite awhile. I've seen many of the fan sites either remove those or simply shut down just to save some headaches.

But I do know of 2 very well-known help sites that DO have links to all the dailies on their front page. I just wonder if they were able to get written permission to have those. My guess would be yes, but I don't know either party so I can't say for sure in either case.
