No, they took him away because there was a glitch that allowed you to visit him unlimited times when he was awake. If you've tried waking him up in the past two days, it would appear that he was still sleeping whereas you were already awarded the prize. Normally, you are not able to try again after your petpet fails but during the glitch, you were able to.

So, does this mean they're going to have to do a lot of account freezing again, because some people might have "abused" the Turmy glitch to get extra items/neopoints/the avatar?

I doubt it, people might have used it by accident because during the glitch, it would always appear that he is asleep and that your pet failed to wake him up.

No one would have noticed unless they're familiar with how Turmac works (that you're only allowed one try per hour) or untill they checked their inventory.

A similar thing happened a while back to the lab ray that allowed unlimited blast for about twenty minutes - followed by the lab being gone for those who remembered. No one has been frozen for that as far as I'm concerned.

I don't see anything saying he's getting his teeth cleaned...

That's because it looks like he's back from his dentist visit already.
