today, i decided to go to my old account. And i got this message:

This account has been FROZEN for the following reason:

You MAY have either fallen for a scam or submitted your account information to a fake login page. If you'd like information on getting your account back, please contact us by clicking here.

:o I dont mind because i hardly used this account. But something made me think about quitting neopets (I dont think i will quit, though) Why in gods name does Neopets Freeze people for things they didnt do? It Ticks me off to the Max :x Its not their fault they got scammed! If they got scammed with a fake item or something, why not delete the item, and send a neomail saying that the item was cloned (or something) and that the item has been deleted, and then (If they bought it) refund their money.

Sometimes neopets seems like an Unfair Website. And also, I WOULD like my account back, but im not even gunna bother because of some of the things i heard on here (That they dont reply until its to late)!

*Inhale* *exhale* *Inhale* *exhale* *Inhale* *exhale* Ok... Im done.

In that situation, Neopets freezes you because they suspect that someone may have scammed you and stolen your account. They freeze it to protect you from losing items, np, or pets. So actually, they're doing you a FAVOR. It's easy enough to get it unfrozen, as long as you have adequate proof that you own the account.

The being frozen for falling for a scam or giving someone your account information is usually because someone else was in your account. I actually wrote to TNT after getting my account stolen, requesting for them to freeze it and that was the message I go a day later when they'd done what I requested they do (freeze the account).

As Erin already said this type of freezing is generally done for your benefit as it ensures that the person who has broken into your account can't cause any damage and can't get it frozen for a more serious reason (one which TNT will not unfreeze users for doing like scamming other users using the stolen account).

If you are really serious about this account write to TNT about it - apply to get your account back. You didn't do anything wrong so you should have no problems provided that you can give enough information to prove that it originally was your account (this is actually harder to do than it sounds, I had to scan and send a copy of my real ID to them). It can take some time (it took me months) and it can be very frustrating at times (what is the most frustrating is when they keep telling you its the wrong form and keep bouncing you back and forth between two forms) but if you care about the account it is worth it.

If you think you might ever want this account back, do it now, don't wait around until its too late and time has lapsed and they will no longer unfreeze. Some forms I sent in got replies within a matter of days, others took weeks (I was told to fill in a huge variety of forms and then told they were the wrong ones again and told I didn't have enough information), I recommend just sending a form once or twice a week until you get one that will actually unfreeze your account if you are going to try.

Well, oddly enough, Meridell won the plot (though not the war). So I think that was just a conicidence.

Dylan, what you have to understand is that any wrongful freezing is either

a) as Erin said, for your own benefit, or
b) a mistake, which in most cases (though I won't claim always) can be corrected.

TNT doesn't freeze you just to annoy you, or because they feel like it. So please cut them some slack until you learn the whole story about what happened. And if you go about your request for revival politely and accurately, you'll likelier than not have your account back very quickly.

Also, keep in mind that you play Neopets for fun. If you dont' like the way the site is run, you're welcome to quit. Personally, although I don't play much anymore, I think TNT does a pretty darn good job at handling some tough tasks. :)

Write to the frozen form on the contact us link.

Do it quickly if you want to at least try and see what the problem was. Since they have a time limit. I asked for my account to be unfrozen and they say it's been inactive for too long. When I probably would have got it back...

And on the other hand. When I was frozen for saying the f word what means cig. About having a cig break. The lady who mailed back was very nice and understanding that I didn't mean to say a word which can be bad (Well... Not here but I guess more in the US and posh parts of Dublin o_O)

Then she unfrozed me. ^^

But I do think sometimes they freeze for unreasonable reasons. Also I believe there is a freeze bot.

There is no such thing as a "freeze bot". There are programs which pick up and point out suspicious activity, but no one is frozen until the situation has been looked over by a monitor. :)

You're right, Naniwai, TNT has stated point-blank that they do not ever, ever use bots to freeze people.

Too bad the majority who gets frozen for this reason does not get unfrozen.

Do you have any proof of this? Have you considered that maybe you only hear about the rarer, unlucky cases because they're the ones complaining?

I can't remember who it was, but a PPTer actually made an account, and didn't do anything on it. No Neoboards, TP, nothing.

Then got a bunch of his friends to report the account 30+ times. Without actually doing anything, the account was frozen.

Gone, forever.

Dylan, I agree with the others - your accounts was frozen to protect whatever is in there (your pets, items, np) as best they can if in fact they believe someone else did access your account.

By the way, was this the account you let your friend into to get some np, as you posted on another topic? If so, then that's why you were frozen. Neopets can and does check IP addresses, you know. No one should ever have access to your account for any reason. If you want to give anything to anyone else, use the tp or buy something from their shop.

I think the thing to do now is click the link and get that autoform filled out - give all the information you can: the email you signed up with, dob you gave, pet/petpet species and names, the guild you were in (if you were in one), your bank type and amount, neofriends, anything special in your inventory/sdb/shop/gallery and anything else you can think of to prove that this is your account. Be polite, use proper grammar, check your spelling, things like that. Remember, whoever reads your initial email is a real person:)

As far as not having bots, well, I know it's been said that TNT definitely does not have those. But I have seen people frozen instantly for an innocent typo that appears to be a "bad" word or for typing a phrase that could be caught by the filters as an attempt at "veiled profanity". There's no way a mod could possibly freeze someone as fast as I've seen happen unless there's alot more mods than we're aware of and they're sitting reading alot of boards at the same time. People are unfairly frozen - dupe day, anyone? People were being frozen for at least a week after that for innocently buying items from shops/auctions/trades - for a normal price - and being frozen for "knowingly" taking advantage. I don't know of anyone who's gotten their account back. The few people who have gotten a response have all been told they won't get their accounts back because they cheated.

That doesn't mean it's a bot.

I have been told personally by a staff member, whom I trust, that there is no such thing as a freeze bot. You can choose not to believe that, but I do.

Did these friends get warned for false reporting? As it states on the Automatic Submission Form - Abuse Report :

"Please do not abuse this form. We check all reports thoroughly.
Things like spamming the form or submitting false reports will not be tolerated.
This can and will lead to your account being frozen."

I believe there is a freezebot, as I was frozen within seconds of a guild message being posted. Even though it allowed me to post the word, I was frozen. I am sure the filter picked out my word, and was automatically frozen.

It was just a misunderstanding and when I sent an email off explaining what happened, I was uniced within 2 weeks. If monitors had actually read my post, they would have known what I was talking about. I had just worded my post wrong.
