I ask someone on the NeoBoards politely to capitalize God's name when mentioning His Name when discussing how someone was "For God". No less than five minutes afterwards, I received a warning.

Honestly, this is getting ridiculously out of hand. Yes, it was stupid of me to go on the boards in the first place, but I needed something to occupy me while I waited for restocks. I see boards with extremely explicit content going for up to 250 posts, yet I get warned for asking someone who already believes in the same religion to make a correction to a statement.

This problem has been discussed before, but it seems to be particularly nasty today.

TNT doesn't allow any religious discussion on the boards, so even if you feel insulted by someone not capitalising God's name, you shouldn't say that on the boards.

My advice to everyone is never to go on the neoboards unless they have tons of patience, nothing better to do and an account which wants freezing.

I've noticed that problem with the boards, which is part of the reason why I don't post there. Some boards are so explicit and so totally against the rules and never get reported, or closed. Yet a good decent person can type one little thing, that most might not even consider wrong and get warned, my friend got warned for asking someone to be polite to others, when someone started insulting someone else. Unfortunately that seems to be the way the boards have been going lately...

Sorry, it could have been worse though. Just be glad you weren't frozen.

Honestly I'm terrified to even click on the link to got to the boards, let alone read them or post anything on them. I just stay as far away as possible. I would hate to lose my account over something like asking someone to capitalize God. I'm sure that anything I would post about God would get me instantly frozen anyway. I can be very stubborn about my views when asked. :)

I'm finally back for the summer, although hopefully I'll spend a little more time away from this screen.

But this is the problem. I didn't feel insulted, I simply asked if he could. People shouldn't have to live in fear of the NeoBoards. Why bother having a feature if using it puts you at a high risk of being banned? It simply doesn't make sense.

The people who are immature enough to start fights and arguments over the issues being discussed should be the ones being frozen, not the ones discussing or inquiring about the controversial topics (Within reason, of course, things that would not be appropriate for the general public to view would of course be forbidden).

I have been thinking lately about why the neoboards are so bad. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions as to why it is a problem and possible solutions.

I think that it is because the boards don't have enough mods or the mods are turning a blind eye in regards to certain boards. The solution to that would have to be to hire more people to mod the boards and possibly have some form of complaint system if a mod is warning people for stupid reasons.

Compare it to PPT, (please keep in mind this is extremely hypothetical, I could never imagine this actually happening) if for some reason a mod here went nuts and was locking boards for no good reason or giving people strikes, I'm sure the Admins would be all over them in no time and remove their mod abilities. The mods here are also careful to explain how you are breaking any rules and they don't ban you for simply double posting. They also are quick to lock topics that become questionable or argumentative.

Why can't they do the same on Neopets? Sure it is bigger and it would take longer, but as it is, the problem is only getting worse and I don't see anyone working on it.

I remember seeing a topic like this before, where I suggested that Neopets use a GameFAQs-Style moderation system that would allow users with certain specific requirements to become moderators, as well as possibly suspending accounts or worse for more serious offenses. I've never seen a staff member reply recently to this sort of idea, although I also remember reading about how Donna had said in an editorial that they could not have user moderators because they were "a real company now, not just some bored college kids" or something to that effect.

I think you're right that Neopets needs more mods. When you look at PPT there is pretty much always at least one mod or admin on at any given time, and if there isn't one always pops up shortly.

I was impressed when I saw a thread here advertising his webspace and selling it for 15k that got locked with no less than 14 views of the topic. The only time I've ever seen the NeoBoards operate like that is when General Chat was removed and people flooded to Other Worlds to spam. You don't see that anymore.

Err...I think the Neoboards are getting a more bad rep from certain sections. Seriously, I chat on the neoboards daily (mainly the BD chat) and I'm 50 months and still going strong. I talk offtopic (usually talking to a friend) and you don't see me getting frozen. <_<

Neoboards aren't bad, you just got to watch what you say and if you got a problem with someone saying "god", just ignore it. I know one thing and that's to never talk about religion, no matter what. Now that is a rule, so you hurt yourself mentioning it.

I have to say, past the BD chat, I see most of the other sections as pretty....general chat-ish and that's not a good thing. Exception is quest and TP, since I've been able to go to those with no problems. I'm sure a few other sections are nice too.

Umm on mods. There was a crazy mod in the BD chat that took the"no offtopic" rule very seriously and would freeze anything not related to the battledome. It was a sad month when that happened. Took another month for that mod to clam down and left.

I really don't think they would freeze or warn someone for that...

Well, I'm glad you are not frozen, but why did you get the warning and not the person who MADE the topic?

Oh well. I'm glad you atleast cared enough to tell them to make the correction, warning or not. :) *hugs*

Well, if you have a problem with someone's post it's probably breaking a rule. I can't think of any posts that bothered me that weren't breaking rules.

I wouldn't have warned you for that, and some crazy stuff does go on, but they do catch most things. It's not possible to catch everything 2 seconds after it goes up. They use mods and an automated system, and you were probably just detected using the name God.

If you look at it logically, what you did was a. break the rules yourself, and b. suggest someone else break the rules by telling them to say God again.

I do think it's rather hilarious how the players take care of the 'parenthesis, period, parenthesis x2' posts themselves :D I love to read those, someone always gets a little cleverer than the last time and improves upon the 'My what big eyes you have!' answer, heh heh!
