And I am still laughing after reading the letter for the third time... it seems as though she thought that by doing so, she was imposing on me a heavy punishment and that I would beg for her forgiveness after the 3 days was up.

Not everyone who adopts a pet from the pound is looking to hijack a pet transfer.
I admit that I used to go to the pound and look for good pets. To be frank, I don't feel theres anything wrong with it.
Of course, i'm nice, so i'd give a pet back without question if it really was someones (and they had proof). But, no proof, no pet.
I picked up a mutant buzz once, and I got two different neomails about who the owner was. I gave it up and someone OTHER then the two who had neomailed me got it. No longer my problem.

Why do people act as if they have a say in who gets to adopt their pets? You can try to give it to someone, but you really don't get to choose. It says right on the front page that the pound shouldn't be used for transfers. Once they're in the pound, they don't belong to anyone, and it's fair for anyone to adopt.

I didn't expect to actually get it back. I figured it was worth a shot though. I was planning to put the pet in the pound anyway (for anyone to grab) but Marissa asked if she could have it, and it didn't work out.

Gee, I don't know why people would hope to successfully transfer their pets through the pound. Maybe because that's the only way to do it? Of course everyone knows the risks involved, but what choice do we have? And then for someone to demand a bribe to give it back -- yeesh!

I'm not saying it's against the rules. I'm saying that I try to treat people like I want to be treated. If someone neomailed me saying that I had adopted their pet and could offer reasonable proof, I would try to give it back. Of course I would be well within my "rights" and Neopets rules to keep it. But it wouldn't be worth it to me because I know how it feels to lose a special pet, and I wouldn't want to inflict that on someone else.

If I kept a pet that I knew someone had been trying to transfer, my actions would be perfectly legal, but I wouldn't feel as if I were acting ethically. But that's just me.

I totally agree. If someone has adopted a pet we wanted to transfer and doesn't want to give it back, we have no right to get angry with them since they got it fair and square.



But why should you want to transfer the pet in the first place? If you don't want a pet anymore, just let go of it and leave it to fate to decide who gets it. If you want it, you shouldn't even be transferring it betwen different accounts.

As for bribery, at least the person provided the option of you paying to get back the pet. That's better than people who ignore your mails and totally refuse to return the pet. I for one would not hesitate to pay to get back a pet that I really liked which got lost in a transfer.

Huh? Who says we shouldn't transfer pets between accounts? Why do we have a whole sticky thread in GC for adoption if no one should transfer a pet? Obviously all the people who post there are not satisfied to just "leave it to fate" as to who gets their pets.

Sure, I'm probably naive and unrealistic to hope that people will act with some courtesy in these circumstances. And yep, I reserve "the right to get angry" when they don't!

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
