Omni, you went ahead and did it (the screenie, uploading, etc.)! I did click to report a message after the site went back up, just to see what would happen - the message was technically reportable - one of the new goofy chains (which I don't report), but in the space I was able to change the message to be reported also.

This I knew was the case before, as I had reported a couple of things and from other people I know and trust have told me. I just wanted to check that it was still the same before I posted anything here.

I find this irresponsible. The potential for abuse (and abuse has happened - people being falsely mass reported by people or even by just one person changing the post just to get them reported and warned/frozen for whatever reason) is just too great. There has to be a way to have a "report this messge" and for the person reporting to NOT be able to edit, alter, change in any way what they are reporting.

Either that or once and for all, take the darned thing off the boards. There's too many report happy people anyway. Maybe if they had to go back to taking the time to click Contact Us, then copy and paste the "offending" messge they may not bother. As it is now, it's just too easy - to report and to falsely report.

The message that's being reported is only added to the text box so the reporter can easily add commentary to certain sections of the post. (We get a lot of people breaking down posts/neomails and commenting on certain parts, especially for REAL harassment reports.) However, the original post and lots of other nifty info that you can't see are sent along with the report itself. It's always been that way.

In other words, just because you can change what's in the box doesn't mean you're changing the original post made by the user or that that's all the monitor sees when they view the report. Any changes made to the message are IMMEDIATELY noticeable by the monitors. So, anyone who edits the message to intentionally fake a report or to feebly attempt to get someone frozen is simply frozen themselves for such a lowdown, dirty deed. (And ALL reports are checked for validity before ANY action is taken.)

Seriously, why the heck would we trust people that report for harassment when someone won't rate their lookup a 10/10, or say someone scammed them when in reality the "scammer" just wouldn't give the person a free paint brush. Oo It's amazing how much of that crap comes in and the monitors have to take time to investigate.

I believe I got a warning for harassment on my old account for that. I rated a girl a low score on her lookup, which was ugly, and she and her guild all reported me for harassment.

Hmmm... But what about people sending in reports through the Contact Us page rather than a direct report link? People could arbitrarily fill the form in.

Also, it seems as though some people are frozen through the sheer volume of reports rather than the "charges" being brought against the "offender" by the reporter and the validity of that report.

A couple of weeks ago I got an alert saying that i recived a warning but when i clicked on it it took me to my neomail and it said this mesage dosnt exist. I was wondering if you could find out if i did get a warning and what it was for. Ive tryed emailing suport staff but got no reply so i'd appreciate it if you could find out for me. I don't mean to make any waves, but I have an email from a staffer that admits to something different. I got it after I sent an email about my daughter's account that was unfairly frozen. I suggested that perhaps the monitor who froze my daughter's account didn't look at the actual post but instead relied on what the person's report said. He unfroze the account and basically said that because of the sheer number of posts compared to the number of monitors, a monitor often has to rely on the report received. Pretty much an admission that things are not checked out before the freeze button is pushed.

The email is from last December, so maybe Neo has changed their policies since then.

I would have to agree in regards to monitors checking the validity of reports- Is there any guarantee that a monitor has done a verification, and, if not, do staff give them the benefit of the doubt? I'm being too cynical, I know, but I'm also curious- I want to know how the process works

And, to add to Omni's post, are monitors checked by supervisors to ensure that their work (in other words, freezing accounts) is being done accurately? Every job I ever had, someone was checking to make sure that I had done it correctly--especially if I was new. Is this being done at Neo? If not, why? And if so, and the supervisor finds out that the monitor was incorrect, are accounts ever unfrozen proactively? Or do you just wait to see if the frozen person writes you?

Now, as to all reports being checked ... why do some people get warnings for things they truly have not done, that aren't against the rules, or get a warning like seconds after typing a post?

For example - I got a warning for typing the word ebay - on my guild board in response to someone who had suggested ebay to me when I was looking for a specific Mcdonald's plushie. She (the other person who typed ebay and typed it first) got no warning, nothing. I on the other hand logged in to find a warning and all my posts cleared. So I have a warning on my "record" that Adam even said here we shouldn't be getting warned for. And it is my only warning.

I've also seen people on the boards have their posts disappear, then they later post that they got a warning - and no one can figure out what the warning was for!

In my case, it is highly unlikely that anyone reported me - small guild, not real active, only a few of us were posting, and we have all known each other on the site/in the guild for a long time.

But I have seen mass vindictive reporting, like when someone rs'es a wanted item (like a t-tear), they're immediately accused of ab'ing with or without a ss to prove they honestly rs'ed it, and the next thing you know that person's frozen for ab'ing and the chances of them getting their account back is slim to none.

Do you think it would cut down on the number of false reports if people knew they couldn't fool you? Maybe even if you just had a line on the reporting screen that let people know the original message was being sent unchanged, they wouldn't even try to fake it.

I have been posting on the Neoboards for 31 months now. I go EVERYDAY and post ALOT. You can ask anyone on the Battledome chats. I have yet to recieve a warning. You guys must be doing something wrong.

Then what's the point in putting the message that you're reporting, in the message that you're typing? That just seems like you're trying to make people fall for the fact that they think they can change someone's message.

And I REALLY doubt that people are frozen after having their 'case' looked at. Considering how fast some people get frozen, it's not possible to find out if they did something wrong or not! That's the reason I don't play games, don't talk on the neoboards, and don't RS. If I had some assurance that I wouldn't get frozen (or get the cheat monster) for playing MC2, maybe I would play some games. I'm not even that good. Oh yeah, lol, I forgot to mention that I don't donate anything to the money tree, because newbies neomail you sometimes, and I'd hate for them to report me and get me frozen for not donating extra things to them as they so frequently ask. Perhaps it would be a good thing to remove the donator's name from the item.
