Every year the grads at my old school always used 'Graduation' by Vitamin C...

My elementary grad songs were "Hold On" from some Christian band that I don't remember the name of (I was in a Christian school), but also "Hanging By A Moment" from Lifehouse. Although there were technical problems and "Hold On" was accidentally used twice, "Hanging By A Moment" had a nice meaning to it...although not such a good tempo for walking.

There was a movement to get this song for my high school grad but the parents were poopy heads and we ended up with I Hope You Have The Time Of Your Life. Horribly overplayed at graduations, weddings, funerals, bar and bat mitzvah's, etc.

And I do agree with Angus way back on the first page about suggesting the same songs for everything. Even if you enjoy singing Yeah by Usher, its relevancy to the occasion is what??? Personally, I'd rather have a song that means something than a catchy tune that my children will never recognize or hear unless it makes it onto the occasional nostalgia station for our generation when we're middle aged and looking back to high school with the occasional twang of a mid-life crisis.

Then go to a club and dance to it.

Pulling a fine black honey with the lyrical aid of ludicris and fat john's shouting and gold teeth isn't a particularly relevant song for a graduation and I'd be willing to wager that there are good dance songs that have meaning.

Listen. It's popular. Many people love it. It's fun to dance to it. Sure, the meaning isn't too strong (If there is one anyway) but it's a great song to dance too. Graduation is about having fun with all of your friends talking, dancing or what not. "Yeah" may not be a sophisticated song but it's a fun song to dance to and have a good time.

Same with the other songs I've listed.

And at my elementary graduation, they played many different songs like "In the end" by Linkin Park and many R&B songs. Sure, they had no relevance to the graduation in general but they are fun songs to dance too with your friends.

Graduation will great based on your friends, life at school, etc.. not on what songs they play. I don't know why everyone is uptight about the songs I have listed. They're perfectly suitable for a dancing occasion WHICH graduation can be and most likely, will be.

There's a difference between playing a song at your graduation and a song for your graduation class.

By all means, Yeah is a fine song to play at your graduation because many people enjoy it. A graduation song is supposed to define your graduating class. Now perhaps if this song had some deeper meaning and you all formed a coup and stormed the principal's office while this song was playing in the background...

I would guess most songs played at graduation are of those liked or chosen by students.

Last year the seniors at my school had "Goodbye" by Plank Eye as their song. The band always plays the processional (always that one song), but this year we want to bust out into "Entry of the Gladiators". Just to do it.

Whatever you do, DON'T use 'Good Riddance' by Green Day, or 'Graduation' by Vitamin C. They're SO overused; they use them every year, without even considering anything new. I always liked the song 'Here's to the Night' by Eve 6 as a graduation/closing song. That's pretty cliché as well...but not as much!

I think meant to live- Switchfoot would be a good choice. That song touches me everytime I hear it, even though its kinda overplayed.
