Ok.. I don't know how well this question can be answered.. but yea I'll try..

Suppose I want a chipset, good for loading big applications and games. I've heard the Athlon 64 is good.. but how does that compare to the "Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition with HT Technology". I heard that was specially made for games or something.

OK. I need some serious help here. Basically what's happened is that my CD-RW and DVD-ROM won't work with my computer anymore. They aren't displayed in My Computer and when I went to "Add Hardware" it found the drivers but said that "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing. (Code 39)". It says this for both of the drivers. Now, they are both connected and they only went missing on about Christmas Day. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but unfortunately when they were installed again by the computer automatically it said the same problem. Please help me! The makes of the two drivers are

DVD-ROM: Samsung DVD-ROM SD-612
CD-RW: Sony CD-RW CRX140E

My computer keeps restarting when playing RCT3 and I have no idea why. I have removed WinTools and TVMedia but this doesn't seem to have fixed it. The screen either just goes black or the computer restarts. When I log back on a grey box says 'Windows has just recovered from a serious error' does nayone have any idea how I can fix this?

Sounds to me that it may be a windows issue. Have you installed any other windows updates recently?

You might also want to check that they still have power. If it's two separate drives, it could be as simple as the power cables or IDE cables coming unplugged.

The only updates that have been installed recently from windows are the security updates on the 23rd of december. And the drives are built into the computer.

Yes, I figured they are, but internal cables can still come unplugged.

Find out who your manufacturer is for both the CD-Rom and the DVD player. Go to their website. Your model number for the parts should be listed in the device manager information. Update the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

If that does not work, the second step, really, is to go to your system restore. If you installed an update on the 23rd, and the drives stopped working, that's the logical step.

Go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. Follow the steps to restore your system to 12/22 or EARLIER. It's a large step, but should solve your problem if the drivers don't work.

Finally, one thing I'd do is check the cables (IDE and power) inside the casing. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, take it to a professional. If you do, follow the steps below.

1. Unplug all cables on the outside of the computer.
2. Take the box to a room without carpet and place it on a table, bench, or counter.
3. Using a screwdriver, remove the screws from the back of the case. Make sure this screwdriver is nonmagnetic.
4. Remove the case cover.
5. Touch the chassis (frame) of the computer.
6. Find your CD-Rom and DVD drives and make sure that the gray cable that plugs into the back of both remains connected to them and to the motherboard (big green thing). It should be an easy fit. If it's still in place, replace the cover, and put the computer back together.


It's probably a windows issue. My presumption is that the windows update included parts/all of windowsxp system pack 2, with which many programs, including drivers, have had problems. The new drivers should solve the problem, really, but I wanted to cover all of the bases.

OK. I've followed your advice and I've ran into 3 problems. I'll do them in reverse order.

3. The computer won't restore back to any date this month and there's no checkpoints before december.
2. The drives are still connected to the motherboard.
1. The websites didn't have any drivers for my disc drives.

I've decided to uninstall all the Windows XP Hotfixes. I'll do them tomorrow, as I wanted to double check if it was OK to do so.

Well, it should be alright, but if anyone else wants to say nay, that's fine too. First, try to do a system restore to whatever the most recent date is. System restore only alters windows, it won't delete any cookies or uninstall any other programs of yours.

I already tried system restore to the different dates. I'm just about to delete the updates and see if that does anything.

My computer keeps saying that it's running low on virtual memory like everytime I'm on it for the past... week or so. When it does that, I can only seem to have a few windows open, and when I try to open something else it doesn't open (I tried opening Photoshop just now and it killed itself).
What do I do to make it have more virtual memory so that it doesn't keep messin' with my stuff?

zero, assuming you have windows xp , do this:
1. Go into the start menu
2. Go to Control Panel
3. Go into system
4. First page it shows, go into performance
5. adjust your virtual memory

That should do it, if it dosn't please post back

Yeah I have windows XP, but I can't seem to find what you're talking about.
I go to start, and control panel, there's nothing that says system but there's Performence and Maintenance, when I click in that there's System, and in that there is System Restore, Automatic Updates, Remote, General, Computer Name, Hardware, and Advanced.
Nyeh, I know nothing about this, and if I mess up the computer my brother will beat me. o_o
