I was told in the third grade that it could go either way; I never got used to doing two so I've always stuck with just one.

I think I was told in grade three as well to double space; I've done it ever since. It's become a habit.

And it makes it easier to tell between commas and periods, too.

I always did one space, until I needed to hand in longer essays, so then I started doing two spaces, just to get that little bit of lenth Now I do two spaces out of habit.

Fullstops? Are those periods? For MLA format, you have to double space everything, even the heading. In word, go to view (i think)>paragraph and under spacing select "double".

I was always told that in middle school. No one in high school ever paid attention. Who does? Who cares? I suppose if you want to be absolutely perfect and perhaps arrogant then you might be obsessed with it. It's such a minor detail of proper writing, it doesn't seem all that important to me. (And I never got into the habit of doing it because it seemed so unimportant...)

I was reminded again in high school when I took AP. Apparently a lot of people weren't doing it and it annoyed the teacher.

I used to do it then I read somewhere that you weren't supposed to doublespace after the period so I got all confused.... but no one does it anymore anyway, 'cause it sorta makes it looks sorta messy with some font types :S

I find that I'm pretty random with that. I always do one space after a comma, but after a full stop it's either 1 or 2. But on days where I'm feeling really daring, I sometimes do 3

I think that spacing is using the enter key twice, not the space key.

I never knew there was double spacing like that. I've always used one space. Come to think of it, in my typing class we used one space too.

Yes, I think that's the correct way. Double-spacing after every sentence just makes a piece of writing easier to read, although as people have said, not many keep to that rule nowadays.
