Well, im trying to get my dad to get me AIM.

What should I tell him?

You could tell him that you can turn off being searchable (so that people can't find you), that it doesn't contain spyware, etc, that it's from a respectable company, and/or that it enables you to not tie up the phone line (if you have DSL or something like it) while talking to your friends. At the moment I can't think of any more, but those are the reasons I can come up with.

If you have a broadband of some sort why wouldn't you? If its becuase your father doesn't want extra software on the comp then you can use aim express.
