Heh, that was actually found quite awhile ago, but it's still neat. Too bad they "closed" it now, you can't actually do anything with it really.

i found it out in the neopets mag (ISSUE 5 JUST GOT IT), lets see here...

Its a page where you "can acsess your neomail, view your buddy list, play the featured game, check up on your neopet's info, see headlines from the neopian times, check out your neodaq portfilio, and view the new features of the day"

It's kinda like something you can use as a homepage.

hmm...
I got a neomail yesterday from the portal people, asking me if I want to sign up for a 15 day trial of free webmail... I would have tried but it asked for too many details..

It's old news, but it's good to hear that they'll go through with the project. Now it'll only take a about two years to finish.

Even if it's (ever) finished, I don't think I'll try it. Though it would be handy to have local information and Neopets information right at fingertips, it would require too much personal info, and I don't like giving out my personal info.

i'd get it when it/if it comes out... but i hate toolbars because 99.5% of the time, they come with plenty of data-miners, spyware, and adware. plus, every toolbar you add to IE takes away a little bit of your website viewing area... and i cant stand that...

Basically its like 'My Yahoo' or 'My AOL'
Personally I don't want to give that kind of information out.

I saw the portal once, someone had posted the url for it and I had to have a look. It's ok, but I don't really need a different home page. My ISP homepage is just fine.

The toolbar? Well, I can tell you aol 9 does NOT like other toolbars. I updated shockwave and for some bizarre reason when you d/l that, it also d/l a yahoo toolbar. Made my aol go insane! Got this huge message screen that an "unknown entity" was attempting to be my isp instead of aol. Nightmare to get the toolbar uninstalled without uninstalling the new shockwave. I just hope I didn't mess anything with the shockwave up!

Plus, like dj said, they take up even more viewing space on your monitor. And I'd be willing to bet that this portal and toolbar does have tracking built into it. I know the portal automatically shows your local weather and stuff. That freaked me out!

The whole issue of personal information does really get to me. I don't want anyone knowing too much about me, unless I choose to give that information. The webmail? From what a few people have told me, they ask for alot of information, and it's not free, at least not after the 15 day trial. I think it's like $4 U.S. a month.

I use google toolbar, and I would use a neopets toolbar, especially if it could search google. Then I would only need one of them ;)

I've got the Google toolbar, but I see no real need for a Neopets toolbar - most of the pages I just type the URL in directly anyway.

I've always though the portal was a nifty idea, though.
