I was recently given a challenge in school to come up with five values for a civilization to be based on. These should be values upheld by the people. The project will be over by the time this is read but I thought it would be interesting if we all tried to design a civilization on five values. So please post the five values you think a civilization should be based on and your rational. I will be posting the five my class comes up with in a little while.

Eurk!! I reminds me of the World History AP class I took in sophomore year...except I forgot the ingredients of a civilization...

Well, I'll just post the ones I could remember:
-Writing System
-Form of government (laws/rules)
-Trade/economy??

Hmm, apparently I don't remember very many. Yay for senioritus.

I was thinking about this earlier... but only managed to come up with two!

Justice - For stability, I think people need to know that things will be fair, and that there are also rules and laws to handle wrongdoers.

Respect - People need to respect each other in general, as well as respecting other cultures, beliefs, etc.

I also think education and learning/teaching is very important... especially since it is the best way to promote the chosen values in your civilisation

i cant think of any answers for this myself, or rather can't be bothered to right now. but these are the 5 core values where i work:
Hospitality is a welcoming openness to all; to the familiar and the mystery of self, people, ideals, experience, nature and to God.
Compassion is feeling with another in their discomfort or suffering, striving to understand the other's experience, with a willingness to reach out in solidarity.
Respect is the attitude which treasures the unique dignity of every person, and recognises the sacredness of all creation.
Justice is balanced and fair relationship with self, our neighbour, all of creation and with God.
Excellence is giving the optimum standard of care and service within the scope of available resources.

i dont agree with the god bits, but in general they're pretty good.

justice, respect, tenacity, love, and...spirit. xDD

justice- for fair government and a sense of right and wrong

respect- for people to know their place in society and ability to tolerate as well as to show honor in actions.

tenacity- for humans ability to go beyond average, never quit, and to always improve

love- for without warmth in the world or something to live for, there is no thought of need for existence but for self.

spirit- for dullness not to bore our minds and let our unique minds be known. to show yourself as different somehow from others.
