One of the suspects leapt down the slope and landed almost directly into the hands of police officers waiting at the bottom. The other suspect, who was armed with a knife, took on Edge and bit the dog in the struggle.

“He bit the dog first,” Detective Sergeant John McGregor told The Associated Press.

I actually bit my dog once. When he was a puppy. He was constantly nipping at me when he wanted attention (he's a cattle dog and they tend to do that), so I took his forearm and bit him back. Not hard. I wanted him to realize who was the alpha. Now instead of nipping at me, he nudges me with his head. Almost a headbutt. Which is bothersome, but better than being nipped, I guess.

I've bit a horse once. He was a pony, and he was a jerk. And one day he bit me while I was walking him to the hitching triangle so I bit his ear.
I honestly don't believe he felt it. But he was evil. He knocked me out one day by snapping his skull into my chin unexpectedly. He also had a blue eye which is traditionally considered to be evil in the horse world. Fitting.
