I went to let our puppy out & felt something crawling on me. Natually I go to swat it and it stings me!

I felt the stinger go in and back out again.

Had to be a wasp since I'm allergic to bees (so I lucked out).

I hurt SO bad yesterday. I had a rough time moving my leg (which was bad cause we left shortly after for a float trip).

Today it itches so badly. I have some allergy anti itch cream stuff that soothes it...for about 10 seconds.

Long story short...dont get stung.

Next time this happens, try a poultice of baking soda and cold water. Make it really thick. It'll help to cut down on the swelling.

Ouch. I got stung by a bee once...on the side of my pinky finger. It hurt a LOT. I've been careful since then, and thankfully haven't had any encounters with wasps...

Actually, wasp stings are relatively neutral with a pH of around 6.8. Applying acidic or alkaline solutions won't do you any good.

# Wash with soap and water
# Apply a antihistamine spray/cream or take antihistamine tablets
# Apply an ice-pack to reduce swelling - always place a towel or similar between the ice pack and the skin!

yeah I didnt take the antihist or anti itch until about a day & 1/2 after it happened because I didnt have any. and I didnt know wasp stings itched until after I scratched the heck out of it (I havent been stung since I was little).

but I was told that if there are any allergic reactions that they would happen right away. I was just confused because I thought people were allergic to bees, not wasps.

& fyi, last time I was stung by a wasp it was in the eye. Thats why I am legally blind in one eye (I can still see out of it, just not very far).

I got stung once as a child and someone took some tobacco out of a cigarrette and rubbed it on the sting. I don't know how it helped, but it did. I heard meat tenderizer can also help.

Was stung / bitten / Something a couple weeks back, so I applied some Iodine naturally.

turns out I'm highly allergic to iodine.

Actually meat tenderizer helps break down the wasp venom. Make that a paste first if you've got some then apply. But it won't do you any good now. My reactions involve painful swelling, so it'll be a problem if i'm ever bit in the face or the neck... or possibly the torso. I was stung on the calf last time and my knee and my ankle both were so stiff/swollen that I couldn't flex it. Still had to work too, which sucked.

I was simply told to use hydracortizone cream, as apparently benedryl or your antihistime won't do much after the initial day. But good luck! Hope you feel better!

I have been stung by a bee twice and stung by a wasp once. I remember being stung by wasp very well it was on the trip home from Sydney. This time we decided to go through the mountains. Problem was we were in the middle of nowhere when it happened. Well not quite we were at Lake Eucambe. But it was miles from the nearest town so it was close enough to the middle of nowhere. Luckily we had some bite cream in the car for such emergencies.

Any back to your problem. An ice pack is good for swelling and stinging.

When I was little and still in my dress phase, I was out in the yard when a wasp flew up the back of my dress. Since it couldn't get out, it got rather distressed and started stinging. I went inside and told my mum that my back itched, so she unzipped my dress to take a look -- the wasp came flying out. My back was covered in stings...if I remember correctly, there were at least 25 that she could count.

Both my parents are allergic, so she was really worried about me and called my doctor, who told her to give me an adult dose of Benadryl. I was knocked out for about a day...

Admittedly, I don't remember much of this. I do have an awful paranoia of wasps, though, and begin to regress to childhood behaviour whenever I see one...

haha I am 22 and still get knocked out by an adult dose of Benadryl. Thats why I only take it at night. but I also have the benadryl anti itch cream that I've been using too.

Usually I see a stinging/biting insect of any kind and take off running. This one was a coward and got me from behind!

& last time I got stung I was 5. I was swimming in the pool, came up for air (had my eyes open underwater) and the wasp got me right in the eye as it rested on the water. Took my eye almost 2 weeks to return to normal. Now I'm legally blind in it (still able to see but w.o glasses or contacts I have no depth perception and I am not legally allowed to drive without them).

I actually think it got me twice...because I have 2 lumps that look exactly alike.

but the benadryl does make the swelling go down some. I just wish it took less time to heal.
