I'm running MSN Messenger for Mac, version 7.0.1.

I haven't been able to log in under any account for the past two days. Every time I try to log in, I get the following error message:
Quote:
Sign in to Microsoft Messenger failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet.
Now, I'm obviously connected to the internet as I can post here and I'm on AIM. When I try to check the status of the service, it says everything is up and running just fine.

Is anyone else experiencing problems? Or does anyone have any fixing ideas?

I've uninstalled and re-installed Messenger and that didn't help.

I know it's not a solution to your problem, but maybe you could temporarily use http://www.meebo.com till you get it ruled out.

It seems that this problem only affects Mac users, and on certain networks. In several cases, changing the router solves the problem.

If you're using Macbook, try connecting to another network first. If other networks allow you to log into the MSN client, you may want to try changing the router.

I had the same problem that you had May with my messengers for my iMac, and I changed my router (as my previous one was getting old anyway). Seemed to do the trick.

Else you could always use ebuddy.com or another Mac IM program like Pidgin that combines multiple messengers like AIM and MSN into one.

Quick note, Pidgin is for Windows - http://www.pidgin.im/
Adium is for Mac and comes highly reccomended by many Mac users - http://www.adiumx.com/

Psst. Kym.
Did you look at the download page? :P
Pidgin's not just for Windows. It's based on Linux software (hence why it's installed by default on Ubuntu -- although mine's still called gAIM. XD), ANNNDDD...

Ta-daaa.

I actually couldn't install Pidgin on my machine... It was strange.

But I do have Adium, so for now, that's taking the place of Messenger.

Thanks for all the help everyone :)
