...what? It seems to be in the in thing to do as of late. :P

I, DM, have learned why you should back up.
A while back I posted a link to my LJ, explaining that my offline computer (lovingly called Josh) basically...in a nutshell, a sploded.
And now from what I'm picking up, only have two options:

1 - Run a LiveCD (which therefore means it pays to run Linux 'cos we've got like eight Ubuntu CDs plus an ancient version of Knoppix) and mount hda1 and sda1 (hard drive and removeable media [thumb drive]). Back up files from hda1 to sda1, then reinstall Windows 2k Pro.
2 - Run 2k Pro recovery console and run chkdsk /r. Now, if this was Linux, I'd freak out considering -r removes stuff, but this is Windows we're talking about. The /r is for repair. XD

So one day when I have the chance and won't get caught, I'm going to run chkdsk. :D
Hopefully, this will work.

P.S.: KIDS, TAKE THIS AS A LESSON.
FREAKING BACK UP EVERYTHING ON YOUR COMPUTER. :[

I second DM's dire warnings. You really should back everything up. I lost two hard drives, one that needed to go to a clean room to be recovered, and I tend to have one computer related mishap a year.

DVD Burners are a great and simple way to back up files. Also, portable hard drives are great to have, especially with SSD technologies these days.

Good luck getting your computer back up, DM.

DVD Burners are wonderful tools for backing up, but don't forget to do more than just copy and paste your files, kiddies. If you have appropriate software, you can back up your OS's settings, too, allowing you to start clean, reinstall, import your settings, and be ready to go in just a few hours.

Was it YOU who bombed the forums? From Turkey?
