FREE (or very cheap) Things in Neopia! REVISED EDITION

This is a guide to things in the great world of Neopia that happen to be free,
or cost less than 200 NP. 200 NP isn’t a lot, is it? No, it’s not. Some of these
are games, some yield items, and sometimes luck runs dry and you don’t get a
darn thing from these. If that happens, I’m sorry, but keep trying! You could
strike pay dirt and retire to a beautiful villa somewhere outside Mystery
Island.
Almost all of these things have a restriction. If they do, I will list them.
Note: A Neopets day begins at 3 AM Eastern Standard Time (the time zone I live
in).
This is the revised edition, with inaccuracies corrected by Neopets users
evilishies and ihearsound.
$$$FREE THINGS$$$
1. The Tombola (http://www.neopets.com/island/tombola.phtml)
The Tombola is a ridiculously simple game of chance. All you do is press a
button! See, isn’t that easy? Sometimes you can get awesomely good prizes, like
bottled faeries or codestones, and sometimes you go away with absolutely
nothing. It used to be that, if you didn’t get a winning ticket, you got a booby
prize, but the strain on Neopets’ servers that resulted from so many Semolina
packets and Cans of Prune Juice floating around made the Neopets Team restrict
the booby prize awarding.
Restrictions: Can only be played once a day, and NOT at 1 PM NST or from 9-11
PM.
2. Every Flash game (http://www.neopets.com/gameroom.phtml)
I have never been charged one NP to play any of the Shockwave or Flash games on
the site. Many of the Flash or Shockwave games are in the ‘action’ section, but
the featured game is also usually a Flash game.
Restrictions: Each Flash game can only be played three times a day.
3. The Fruit Machine (http://www.neopets.com/desert/fruitmachine.phtml)
The Fruit Machine is the source of all the Tchea Fruits selling for 5 NP around
Neopia’s player-owned shops. Aside from all those Tchea Fruits, this machine
also gives away NP and other assorted fruits, as well as Petpets or Paint
Brushes. The prizes worth less are usually awarded for two matching fruits, and
the better prizes for three matching fruits. Restrictions: Can only be played
once a day.
4. Coltzan’s Shrine (http://www.neopets.com/desert/shrine.phtml)
Coltzan’s Shrine is a strange little pillar standing in the Lost Desert.
Depending on the time you get there and ask him for help, he can make your pet
stronger, heal them, give them food, give you NP, or do absolutely nothing. I
also hear tell of a rumor that he gives you a million NP if you reach him at
exactly midnight, but I highly doubt that that’s true.
Restrictions: Every 13 hours.
5. Omelets! (http://www.neopets.com/prehistoric/omelette.phtml)
Going to the giant omelet (the Brits spell it omelette) is absolutely free and
provides your pets with three meals. When you obtain an omelet, you can feed it
to your pet, and then it turns into a half-eaten omelet, but the fun doesn’t end
there. Feed them once more and it becomes a 1/3 of an omelet, and once more
makes the entire omelet disappear. Sometimes the omelet appears to be gone, but
when that happens, just wait a little while and come back.
Restrictions: Once a day.
6. Jelly! (http://www.neopets.com/jelly/jelly.phtml)
The Giant Jelly is creepily similar to the Giant Omelet. Does your pet have a
sweet tooth, or just hates eating bacon and broccoli on a huge egg (because I
sure do)? Seek out the Giant Jelly instead. I believe that Jelly World itself is
still a hidden area, but it is so easy to reach. Jelly obtained here also makes
two meals, although I don’t really recommend feeding your pet the Poison or
Glowing Jelly. Who wants to eat something that is glowing, anyway?
Restrictions: Once a day
7. The Money Tree (http://www.neopets.com/donations.phtml)
Although it is plagued by a “don’t blink or you’ll miss it” aura, sometimes true
gems can be found here at the Money Tree, such as faeries, codestones, a lot of
NP, or giveaways by the owners of certain stores! Warning, however, that dial-up
users are grossly disadvantaged here, as people with DSL, cable, and T1
connections can both load the page faster and grab things faster. Good luck!
Restrictions: None that I know of.
8. The Soup Kitchen (http://www.neopets.com/soupkitchen.phtml)
The Soup Faerie, one of the most generous faeries in all Neopia, stands by a
gigantic cauldron and hands out free soup to hungry Neopets.
Restrictions: You must have less than 5,000 NP to receive soup. She knows how
much you have in your bank, too, and that total counts towards your limit, as
well as how much you are carrying on you.
9. The Rubbish Dump (http://www.neopets.com/medieval/rubbishdump.phtml)
The Money Tree’s nastier younger brother, the Rubbish (Trash) Dump exists to
offer items to people who are fast enough to grab them. I’m not sure how you
donate things to the Rubbish Dump, if you can at all.
Restrictions: None that I know of.
10. The Healing Springs (http://www.neopets.com/faerieland/springs.phtml)
Although the potions in the store here seem overpriced, and for some reason the
Water Faerie is sitting on a rock surrounded by grass, the Water Faerie can
dispense some great things, depending on your luck. Sometimes, she gives you one
of her overpriced potions, or heals your pets completely, or restores some of
your pets’ HP, or cures your active pet of sickness.
Restrictions: Can be done every 45 minutes.
11. The Faerie Crossword (http://www.neopets.com/games/crossword/index.phtml)
Do you know a lot about Neopia? If so, try out the crossword.
Restrictions: Timed game, and can only be played once a day.
12. Potato Counter (http://www.neopets.com/medieval/potatocounter.phtml)
It’s pretty simple here, folks. Just count the potatoes you see on the screen
and win some NP from it. Oh joy, oh rapture.
Restrictions: Unknown.
13. The Academy (http://www.neopets.com/pirates/academy.phtml)
Your pet can receive one free training lesson here if it is their day. For
example, on Eyrie Day, all Eyries can get a free lesson, but Techos cannot. To
find out when it is your pet’s specific day, have a look at the calendar, which
is at http://www.neopets.com/calendar.phtml. The other day providing free
training is Neopets’ birthday, November 15. If a pet’s day falls on a weekend,
usually some extra time to receive free training is provided.
Restrictions: Free training is only provided for each pet on TWO days out of 365
(or possibly 366).
14. The Snowager (http://www.neopets.com/winter/snowager.phtml)
The Snowager is this giant ice worm thingy that guards a bunch of treasure. If
he’s awake, you can’t take any of his treasure. If he’s asleep, you can try for
something and risk having him attack your precious Neopets. The Snowager is
awake at these times (all are in Neopian Standard Time): 6-7 AM, 2-3 PM, and
10-11 PM.
Restrictions: You have to reach him at one of those three times.
15. Slorg Points (http://www.neopets.com/shop_of_offers.phtml?slorg_payout=yes)
A new surprise I didn’t even know about! Just by looking at this page, you can
get 50 or 100 NP, no strings attached!
Restrictions: Once daily.
16. Who Knows??

$$$CHEAP THINGS$$$
1. The Wheel of Excitement (http://www.neopets.com/faerieland/wheel.phtml)
COST: 150 NP/spin
The original wheel on Neopets, the Wheel of Excitement can dispense some pretty
awesome prizes, or some pretty crappy prizes. I tend to get the Mystery Prize a
lot. The Mystery Prize is not a good prize because you only get about 55 NP per
time. Just keep trying.
Restrictions: Can only be played once every two hours.
2. Many of the Luck and Chance games (http://www.neopets.com/gameroom.phtml?game_type=1)
COST: Varies from 5 NP – 200 NP (I think)
You can make or break yourself on these addictive Luck and Chance games. Now
doesn’t everyone see why gambling is so illegal in some places? It’s addictive.
Some of my personal favorite games are Dice-a-Roo, Gormball, JubJub Blackjack,
Cheat, and Sakhmet Solitaire.
Restrictions: You will lose money. There, I said it. It’s inevitable that you
will lose some, or a lot, of money on these games, but you could win a lot as
well. It’s all about luck.
3. The Merry Go Round (http://www.neopets.com/worlds/roo/merrygoround.phtml)
COST: 50 NP/ride
I remember a day before mini-worlds such as Roo World and Kiko Lake existed…but
that’s a story for another time. I am not sure of the effects of this ride,
although I theorize that perhaps it improves how your pet is feeling (happy,
angry, sad, etc.). Anywho, it made both of my pets happy.
Restrictions: None that I know of.
4. The Wheel of Mediocrity (http://www.neopets.com/prehistoric/mediocrity.phtml)
COST: 50 NP/spin
A spinoff (horrible pun, eh?) of the original Wheel of Excitement, the Wheel of
Mediocrity only costs 50 NP, and is ‘hosted’ by a sarcastic Flotsam that alerts
you to the ‘great prizes’. Some of the prizes are not as good, like the lava,
but some are good, like the NP. When I spun the Wheel, I won back the money I
paid for admission (50 NP).
Restrictions: Can only be played once every forty (fourty) minutes.
5. The Wheel of Monotony (http://www.neopets.com/prehistoric/monotony/monotony.phtml)
COST: 100 NP/spin
I had a bad experience with this wheel, but it doesn’t always freeze up before
awarding the prize for everyone! The advice I get the most is to let this wheel
spin and go do something else; it makes the time melt by. It does give good
prizes for the small amount of money you pay, however.
Restrictions: Possible waste of 100 NP and a lot of your time for nothing. As
for time restrictions, I don’t know any.
6. The Wheel of Misfortune (http://www.neopets.com/halloween/wheel/index.phtml)
COST: 100 NP/spin
Enough with the wheels already, Neopets team! As with all the other wheels
before this one, you can win and lose things here. There are not as many things
to land on, and thankfully it only takes about five seconds to get a result, as
opposed to the hour or so for the Wheel of Monotony.
WARNING!!! There is a high chance that you will lose all your NP you are holding
when you play this, if you want to play it put it all in the bank.
Restrictions: Can only be played once every two hours.
7. Buried Treasure (http://www.neopets.com/pirates/buriedtreasure/index.phtml)
COST: 200 NP
Krawk Island is a huge waste of time, really, unless you’re good at pirate games
or have a ton of Dubloons to spend. Buried Treasure costs 200 NP, not any
Dubloons, to play. It’s pretty straightforward. You see a map of Krawk Island
and you click on one of the squares, presumably to see if any treasure is hidden
there. You only get one try, however, so choose wisely.
Restrictions: Once every three hours.
