Guide to Wars For People Who've
Never Been in One
Written by ChromeFox
Introduction
Neopets wars are basically periods where Battledomers are given the opportunity
to whoop up on a variety of opponents for a nice little reward at the end.
Though as of now, there have only been two wars (the Tyrannian and Sakhmet),
wars have become one of the most popular Neopian pasttimes.
It's War!
A war occurs some time during a plot and can end with the introduction of a new
world. Wars last anywhere from a few days to a week with a surge of new
opponents popping up every day. The opponents introduced gradually get more
powerful until finally everybody's faced with the War Boss who has some ungodly
number of HP and who we all have to work together to defeat. After the War Boss
dies, the war is over, and prizes are awarded eventually.
Perks
Some perks of wartime include:
- A trophy, NP, and increased
rank depending on how many battles you won
- A surge of new opponents
- A cute little plot to follow
- A little more camaraderie
with your fellow Neopians than usual
Some bad things are:
- If you're not a Battledomer,
you're gonna be pretty bored
- All other one-player
opponents are eliminated for the duration of the war
- That's about it
This pretty much spells out F-U-N for wars.
The Home Front
While a war is going on, not much on the site is updated but the war. All other
non-war one-player opponents are history until the war's over (and maybe not
even after that). Yes, that includes Punchbag Bob, so you're gonna have to rely
on the Healing Springs or Healing Potions.
You do not need to "sign up" for the war or anything like that
to be in the war. Everyone is automatically in if they want to be. You'll notice
that when you challenge war opponents, there's a number by them indicating how
many of that opponent are left. When all are gone, you can no longer fight that
opponent. Weak foes are gone much faster than stronger foes, and some very
powerful ones such as Sakhmet's Sloth Clones can take several hours to defeat.
The News page announces when new opponents come out. There are certain levels of
opponents -- Level 1 (the easiest to beat), Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and
finally the Boss -- that are turned out in order, and the more difficult ones
reap bigger rewards.
If you lose, you aren't disqualified. You cannot get DQ'ed during a war. But the
financial reward for a victory is much better than for a defeat, and it's likely
that during this war, only wins will count. So try to beat them. It helps
to know what difficulty you can handle so you can pick the right opponents.
Boss Fight
When all opponents are defeated (or when Neopets decides it's just time), out
comes the War Boss. Don't let its insanely massive HP frighten you, because
you're not fighting this alone. Everyone's trying to bring this thing down one
slash at a time.
Pets with the ability Drain Life will steal the show now. This skill
allows anyone to take down 100 HP of the Boss per turn on the "Weak"
setting (setting doesn't matter for this particular ability) for 10 turns while
healing 100 HP to themself! That of course means that a pet with Drain Life can
take down 1,000 HP in a single fight as long as there's no interference, and by
"interference" I mean "a Rod of Supernova" or something akin
to that. If the Boss's weapon does over 100 HP plus your HP, you're KO'ed.
Period. No exceptions.
It used to be that we brave folks pummeling down the Boss would have to take
heavy losses for the greater good, but I think now that we can withdraw via the
Status page, slipping out just before death will be pretty common. ;)
When the War Boss finally kicks the bucket, the war is over
Have Ya Got the Skills to Pay the Bills?
Eeeeeeeeeveryone's happy on Reward Day. Or at least everyone who fought
during the war is.
See, for every battle you won, you're getting a little financial reward. This
can be anywhere from 5,000 NP (one lousy fight) to several million NP (making
the killing blow to the War Boss). $$ CHA-CHING! $$
You'll only make NP once per opponent, but it adds up. The stronger the foe, the
better the reward, although the exact numbers may change this time around. Last
time, it went something like this, so sayeth Yeochins:
First Round - 5K per opponent
Second Round - 10K per opponent
Third Round - 20K per opponent
Fourth Round - 100K per opponent
War Boss - 20 million to the lucky dog who hits him last + possibly a rare,
powerful item
Making it rich off of schooling bad guys - priceless
Oh yeah, and you'll also get a spiffy trophy for your look-up. The more you won,
the cooler your trophy will look. If you did pretty lame, your trophy will look
something like this:

But if you
absolutely clean house, you'll get something like this:

Woo-hoo! :) So
we're predicting a war soon. We hope. Be prepared, kids! :D
