Newbies Guide to Neopets
Written by Yukio - Thanks to Janie, Ven0m0us, Stephy, BlinBlue, Mermaid Hill, Ten Snow
and Michelle the Goth for all their help and guidance in writing up this article!
So you decided to sign up to Neopets huh? Once thing, you have no idea what to
do! I don't blame you. The world of Neopets is a huge one, and like it or not,
you are bound to make a mistake sooner or later, unless you like pretending to be
a vegetable. Fear no more, you have taken the first positive step by checking out PPT
and hey, with this site at your side and this excellent guide to help you, you
can't go wrong and in a few days, you'll be the one laughing at all those
silly newbies with their silly questions.
#1 Create Your Pet
The core of the game centers around your Neopets, who becomes your companion
during your journey. You are able to create up to four Neopets, but it is
recommended
that you only start with one. This is because caring for pets becomes expensive, and
more should only be created once you start bringing in the neopoints. There are more than
10 different pets to choose from, and once chosen, they have to be named. Keep in mind
that one of the best aspects of Neopets is taking care of your pet, so don't lose sight
of that!
Help! I tried to create my pet but when I click on my status page, it show an image
of an egg and says my pet hasn't hatched yet. What went wrong?
This occurs because you did not finish creating your pet. To complete the process, go
back to the create a pet page and you should be able to finish the process.
Does it matter if my pet's stats says slow?
No it does not. You do have the option to re-roll the stats up to three times if you
wish to try for better stats, but the stats for your pet can improve later on by doing
faerie quests (the faeries will reward your pet by making it stronger in various ways),
by taking your pet to one of two training schools, or by reading books to it to increase
it's inteligence.
#2 Explore the Worlds
Now that you have your pet, you should start exploring the worlds. Do this by clicking
on explore and finding out for yourself where everything is. You don't have to sit there
for 6 hours memorizing where everything is, simply letting it all sink in is best. Some of
the most important things you should need to take a look at before you do anything else is
the Trading Post, the Shop Wizard and the Auction Genie.
What is the Trading Post?
The Trading Post is where two users who play neopets can trade items for items and/or other
goods which another player has. This method of trading is safe and it is urged that you
only use this method for trading if you want to trade an item/neopoints with another player.
There is no such thing as "The Trading Post won't work for me."
What is the Shop Wizard?
The Shop Wizard will aid you in finding the best price possible for a particular item which
you are looking for. The results of the search will link to various other player's shops.
What is the Auction Genie?
The auction genie is similar to the Shop Wizard, however rather than searching other player's
shops, it searches the auction database (items which are up for auction).
#3 NeoPoints
For most of the activities that can be done on Neopets, you will require neopoints.
Often abbreviated to np, neopoints is the equivalent to money in real life. You use
neopoints to open shops, you use neopoints to buy food, you use neopoints to build houses
and you need neopoints to buy that special someone an early birthday present. Like it
or not, you will need neopoints do fully experience the game.
#4 Play Some Games
First things first, you need some neopoints. In Neopets, neopoints are awarded when a user
plays games with their pets, so head on over to the games area and choose any game that comes
easiest to your hand. Play it and when you lose, click send score and you should see some
neopoints in your account balance. Some recommended games for quick cash are Poogle Solitaire
(750 neopoins - solutions posted on PPT), Meerca Chase and Kiko Match II. Keep playing games
until you reach about 1,000np and now, the real fun begins.
#5 Open a Shop
One of the best ways to make neopoints in this game is by opening a shop and selling your items
to other players. It costs money to open a shop, and it also costs money to upgrade your shop to
make it larger. Larger shops allow the player to stock up more items and sell more. For instance,
a size 100 shop will be able to stock 500 items while a size 10 shop will only be able to stock
50 items. Each upgrade in shop size will allow you to stock an extra 5 units of stock.
Click on shops and click on the shop icon which appears on the horizontal bar. Once you are there,
it will ask you to create your shop. Click create and start editing your shop look if that's what you want.
Your shop will initially be able to stock 5 items. You can upgrade your shop if you would like
but it is not recommended at this stage. Only upgrade your shop if you need to and have the funding
to back it.
#6 Collect Your Starter Kit
With your left over neopoints in your pocket, you should collect your free welcome starter kit. The kit includes toys,
food items and miscellaneous other items. Go to your inventory. Once you are there, you should
see an option which allows you to collect your newbie pack. Collect it and you should now
see a plethora of items in your inventory.
#7 Stock Your Shop
Now that you have items in your inventory, click on an any item, we'll let you choose, and select
the add to shop option. This will transfer your item from your inventory to your shop. DO this to
all your items. Once done, enter your shop again, and you should see your stocked items in your store.
Now set your prices and hit submit. Congratulations, you have successfully opened your store!
*Note, it is important that you always compare your prices to other player's prices. Do a search for
the item name in the Shop Wizard and it will give you a fair indication on how much other players are
pricing similar items.
How will I know if I'm pricing too low or too high?
Always compare your price for your item to the prices of other items in the Shop Wizard. Simply search
the Shop Wizard for the item name and a list will come up.
No one is buying my item!
This is most likely because you have set your prices too high. Compare your prices with that of the Shop
Wizard. Buying isn't instantaneous. Sometimes it can be bought in a few seconds, especially if that item
is in high demand. Other times it can take minutes, hours, days, weeks and months.
After your items are sold, you can collect your profit from the shop till. Use this money to purchase bargain
items from official shops or from other shops and resell the item in your shop. Supplement this with more
neopoints from games and you will reach 10,000 neopoints very quickly. As you start making more neopoints
and you start buying and selling more items, begin upgrading your shop to
accommodate it's growth.
#8 Head to the Bank
When you have finished playing, head on over to the Bank and create an account with the Bank Manager. Once
you have done so, deposit all your neopoints in the bank. Everyday, you will earn interest for the money in
the bank but be aware that you have to visit the bank every day to collect your interest if you want to collect
your interest.
#9 Visit Your Freebies
Visit the Wheel of Excitement, the Wheel of Mediocrity, the Tombola, the Fruit Desert Machine and the Buried
Treasure everyday to try your luck at gaining free items! Use these items to stock your shop and sell for
even more neopoints. You should also visit the Giant Omelette as it will provide you with free omelettes which
can feed your pet three times! These freebies will aid the new player who don't have many neopoints to spend.
If you want extra items, try your luck at the Donation Tree. People donate various items there every second so
if you're quick, you can grab one! If your pet is also hungry, you can get it fed free at the Soup Kitchen.
#10 Big Booboos
Refrain from the following until you have make at least 50,000 neopoints as they gobble up your neopoints
supply very quickly. Avoid building a neohome and/or training your pet. Also avoid all those "get rich quick"
schemes and threads as they are usually scammers trying to steal your accounts and hard earned neopoints.
Remember that no one from Neopets will ever ask for your username and password. Anyone who does is a scammer
and if you ever listen to one, you might as well just give away all your neopoints.
Well there you have it, a complete newbies guide which will help you get started on your journey. Hopefully
this article has pointed you in the right direction and good luck!
