So Why Do I Work on PPT?
I’m afraid over the past few columns I’ve written for “Yukio’s Articles”, I have
addressed somber issues that dealt directly with Neopets. Therefore today, I
have decided to dedicate the first thirty minutes of my day, and a sunny day it
is too, to writing something which is somewhat more enjoyable to read.
So let’s see, it is currently 1 p.m. and I have just had my lunch. I woke up
quite late actually because I watched a few movies with family last night and
didn’t sleep until about 3 a.m. (gosh!). For those who are curious, I watched a
Tom Hanks movie where he is a Mafia gangster, and Zoolander. Now that I am
finally ‘awake’, I was pondering what I should write about. Pondering this, I
recalled reading from an Animorphs (by K.A. Applegate) book early last year a
chapter where one of the main characters were teaching his readers who to write
an essay on the topic of absolutely nothing, and this article seems to be taking
that course. That is, I am randomly typing about anything, steering off on a
tangent like a train going of its tracks, in the hope that by the end, I will
present you with a half decent article which will pass me off as intelligent.
Pushing the mumbo jumbo aside, it suddenly struck me that maybe I will write
about nothing. The topic I gradually touch on is “So why do I work on PPT?”
(Now how is that for an introduction! 242 words and I haven’t even started!
*pose*)
So why do I work on PPT? Why do I pay for something which I don’t even make any
money out of? Why did I even bother writing up this article? Why did the
elephant cross the road? Or was it the chicken? Just kidding! I’m not going to
put you through all that again. In addressing the question, I examined myself,
and found that I worked on PPT, because it was a hobby of mine.
Originally, I created PPT because I wanted to work on websites a little bit
more. I first started building websites during the Pokemon era, when crazy
people ran around the streets waving Pokemon dolls from their right and left
arms while they shouted phrases such as, “I choose you!” Unfortunately, this
small website never really made it into what would be considered the ‘big time’,
so as trends changed, so did the little site I created disappear into its little
corner of innocence. Actually, I don’t even know if it is still online. After I
finish this article, I’m going to go and see if I can find it. Anyway, this
first website experience paved the way for me to create PPT later on, which is
what you, I am assuming, are visiting right now.
Back then, I must admit I loved Neopets, and I still do. It was something new,
something fresh and most importantly of all, something mega fun to play! Then it
struck me, since I liked the game so much, and seeming as there were only two
major Neopets sites out back then, them being
www.nothingbutneopets.com and
www.planetneopia.com, why shouldn’t I
create a website? I had the advantage this time. Back when I created my Pokemon
website, there were already a thousand websites online. Competition was fierce.
However, now, there was no established fan site base for Neopets, so I was
quickly able to take the lead in the Neopets Fan Site market, by offering
something which no other site did. Solutions, guides and walkthroughs to the
game formally known as, Neopets! So in summary, I created PPT because:
1) I liked the game and creating the website was fun to do!
2) I wanted to see if I could make the website one of the largest websites ever!
I still like the game, so the factor of keeping the website is a fun thing to do
is still in. And I am always willing to have the site grow, but as the website
went on, my reasons for working on PPT gradually changed even as PPT changed. I
began to meet people who would later become good friends with. I began to
recruit people, like me, who loved the game and wanted to contribute to the
empire PPT had created. Soon, I began to realize that I had created a community
of people who loved working on websites, and having fun! (Hence the ability of a
person to mesh with everyone else was a vital factor in selecting people). So
now, why do I work on PPT? Not only because I liked the game, liked working on
websites and such, but more so now, because I had a great bunch of people
working alongside me. Collaborating, giving ideas, suggestions, improvements,
and for random sessions chatting about absolutely nothing! What started as
nothing became a club, where working on a hobby became a team effort!
So in answer to the question, “Why do I work on PPT?” I give you this; I work on
PPT, because it is a hobby, and because it is fun!
