The Art of Making Neopoints
Written by Einstein_006
Most would say things like "play games" or "buy low and sell high" as ideas for making neopoints. Though they make excellent points, there is still one thing to be said. What items to buy low and sell high? What kind of shop to run? When to know that the games you're are playing have been "outdated slightly" by the fact that your shop is just plain awesome. Well, this guide is here to show you how!
The Art of Not Spending Neopoints
We've all heard about the difference between needing and wanting, why not to buy paint brushes, and everything like that. However, it's difficult to know why you "need" an item. What needs do you have? Food, medicine, fun, and money. The first 3 are easy enough to get, and there are guides out there tuned specifically for those needs. But money is harder to come by. Here's a good idea for newbies and experts alike: Don't withdraw from your bank account. NEVER DO IT. EVER. This forces you to make money instead of reaching into your bank account and thinking it's some kind of "infinite well of neopoints". I usually keep 1000 with me and then deposit my NP's when I get over 1000.
This helps when playing luck/chance games. Take the scratch card kiosk; 600 NP?!? I spend my 600 NP from my 1000 and I lose it because I don't win. Do I withdraw 600 NP from my bank account? No. I go to meerca chase and earn it all back because I'm trying to become a neomillionaire, and taking money from the bank is not smart. Got it? Good.
What do I buy low and sell high?
People recommend faeries for others who have 50, 000 NP's or more. Others recommend books for everyone. Medicine is also a big business tip. The problem is, that these things are sold at their worth or greater in the neopian shops. Books can earn you from anywhere to 400-20,000, but you usually end up getting 500 if you buy from official neopian shops, which is something you should ALWAYS do. Faeries are impossible to come by because hundreds of people wait for them in the magic shop. Medicine is WAY overpriced in the pharmacy. Where am I going with this? The most unlikely place... the chocolate factory!
Yes, the chocolate factory. 90% of all chocolates are sold above their worth in the shop wizard, but they are sold BELOW their worth in the chocolate factory. Think about this; I can buy a white chocolate eyrie for at most 600 NP at the chocolate factory and then sell it for 4500 on the
shop wizard because for some weird reason white chocolate eyries are very expensive. That's a 3900 NP profit! And 4500 Is LITERALLY the cheapest price on the wizard, no kidding. Check it for yourself.
White chocolate sells higher than milk or dark chocolate, so buy that more. Wocky's, Aisha's, Eyrie's, Lupe's, and Elephante's are some of the most expensive white chocolates, selling anywhere from 300-1000 at the chocolate factory to selling from 2000-7000 on the shop wizard.
NOTE: Don't be like the people who buy chocolate on the shop wizard. It's a really big rip-off. NEVER buy chocolate unless it's from the chocolate factory. Got it? Good.
But I want that paint brush SO BAD!
Now, I never deny someone a paint brush when they are at the brink of tears. Why? Because expensive paint brushes have their own profits, even if it is less than the chocolate industry. A Christmas paint brush can be bought for around 3200. You buy it because you want it so bad. If you made a mistake and just wasted your money because you had no use for the paintbrush, don't worry or start crying!
Auction it! Start it off at 2000 (yes, 3 zeros after the 2 making it two thousand) with a minimum increment of 250 or 500. This way, when people bid (which they will want to), the first person will go for 3000, but if you set the increment at 500, someone will probably be foolish enough to bid 3500. 3500 is 300 more than what you bought the paint brush for, correct??? So you still make a profit. I once auctioned a Christmas Paint Brush starting at 2000 with an increment of 250 and it reached the price of 4000 after 8 hours, and I only paid 3250!
NOTE: Always auction rare and expensive items for 2 days. It gives the item more of time to build up a large amount of NP bid on it.
I am horrible at all the games!
So am I. Don't think you're alone. However, here's a good tip for all you people who are horrible at all the games (I am, trust me). Play Better Than You! The game they have their should become your favorite game in a weeks time. Why? Because firstly you will be trying to beat a score in that game, and if you do, then it means you are not horrible at the game and you should play it 3 times a day! Second, you might get a really sweet prize if you are one of the first 5000 people to beat the
high score of the challenger!
TOO MUCH COMPETITION IN THE CHOCOLATE INDUSTRY!
Yes, this is unfortunately true. I don't know if it was my guide or just my horrible bad luck that did this, but it seems that a lot more people are waiting for the chocolate shop to restock. Seriously, I can't even get my hands on a Milk Chocolate Scorchio anymore ;). But, I have a new plan! Wait outside the food shop and toy shops! These two shops are literal gold mines. The food shop is the key to riches. It's possible to get your hands on a couple regular bananas for 50-300 NP each (depends on whether you haggle aggressively or not) and sell them for 800 NP. Also, items such as Krawkade and Kougra Cakes are sold here. Krawkade sells VERY expensively; if you can get your hands on one bottle, it's like receiving 60, 000 NP free. Kougra Cakes sell from 5000-50,000, and you can get them for about 300 each. However, they only get stocked in numbers of 1-2, so it's going to be EXTREMELY difficult to get a Kougra Cake, unless you have an EXTREMELY fast computer. Even I, with a cable modem, haven't gotten one Kougra Cake. But I do know, after receiving one from Better Than You, that they are rare and expensive. The toy shop has a few rare gems in a sea of garbage. Many plushies and keyrings, though they look "rare" and "attractive", toys don't sell at high prices unless you know what to buy. What do you buy? Why, Kougra plushies of course! Kougra plushies sell for 1000 NP, and you buy them for about 300 NP. Getting your hands on one is about as easy as getting the Lime Jelly Blumaroo in the chocolate shop. No one is waiting around in the toy shop (except for me), so getting a Kougra plushie will be easy. However, the kougras only appear about once an hour, in a random restock. Unless you have a lot of time, just wait for one restock, and if it's not there, rush on over to the food shop to see if you can pick up a negg.
My internet is so slow, 28.8 K is like DSL to me.
There are always those with the slowest internet on earth. For the unfortunate few with that bad luck, there are still ways to get neopoints. Give up on your shop; it's going to be hard to even haggle for common items in Usuki Land (lol). It's time to play some games! Which game you ask? JubJub Blackjack! Blackjack has to be the simplest game on the face of the Neopian world. It's so easy to make a thousand NP off that in one sitting, and yet, you can lose 1000 NP in less than a minute if you don't know what you're doing. First, bet just 10-20 less than half of the amount of NP you currently have (unless it's 850 or above, where you will always bet 400). This will allow a second turn to make back the money you lost. Okay, say you bet 400 NP. I'll just ASSUME you know how to play blackjack. If you don't, you're going to lose all your money. Anyway, the ideal situation is for you to have a total of 10, and your opponent to have the "current" total of 3. I say "current" because you can't see their 2nd card. Hit if this "ideal" situation pops up. For the first hit, it doesn't matter what your opponent has. You're probably going to get 20. This isn't just some ideal situation; getting 20 is actually the mathematically accurate situation if you started off with 10. There are 4 fives to draw, 4 sixes to draw, 4 sevens to draw, and so forth. However, Jack, Queen, King, and 10 all equal 10. That means there are 12 different cards you can draw to get the total of 20. You get 20. Click stick and keep clicking the links of "your opponent draws again!" until you win or lose. You'll probably win because 20 is only beatable by blackjack (21). Of course, the ideal situation doesn't always happen. If you get 17 or above, don't hit again. It's WAY too risky. However, getting 13, 14, or 15 is always the worst situation. Look at what your opponent has if this happens. Does he have a jack? Or a 3? If he has the "current" value of 5 or less, or 10 or more, then hit. 5 or less with give you 15. This will tie, beat, or get beaten by you. It will generally always tie or beat your total. So, always hit if they have 5 or less! If they have 10, then you are in trouble. If their hidden card is a high one, it might beat yours. However, if it's a low one, they can always hit and get a high total. Always hit, even if you are at 15, if your opponent has a card with a value of 10 on the table. If your opponent has an ace, your pretty much dead unless you got blackjack. Generally speaking, if your opponent has an ace they have blackjack. If they don't they have 15. This is usually how it turns out. Set a limit as to how much you want to lose/gain. If you go under 500, do you want to stop and earn some NP back? Or when you hit 1400 after a win, do you want deposit 400 NP in your bank or keep going with more NP? A limit is crucial as to how you play blackjack. My limit to losing NP is 500, and my limit to gaining is 1000. I play two games of Jubjub; If I win the first time, I deposit 400 NP, then play again. If I lose the second game, I go and play nimmo's pond (I hate the game, but it pays well if my hands are feeling steady and I can control the arrow keys without a problem). To end this little Jubjub Blackjack guide, let's finish by saying... NEVER HIT THE DOUBLE BUTTON! NEVER. EVER. It's not worth it. I always only carry 1000 NP with it, and when I go over, I deposit. Doubling means you could lose 4/5 of your NP (if you bet 400 NP with 1000 in your pocket)!
I'm broke. I'm horrible at all the games and I my current items aren't selling. WHAT DO I DO?
The usual. I know everyone says play tombola, and go to coltzan's shrine, but I have a different strategy. If your willing to go broke for another month, then you will become rich. Play tombola/coltzan's shrine for about 40 days. Every day before going to them, play meerca chase twice. Donate 200 of the neopoints you get to the money tree, and then go to tombola and coltzan's shrine. This will give you better luck. Whenever you get an item or something rare from tombola, put it into your deposit box. I've found that I have better luck after refreshing the same page 500 times (which I do after waiting outside the food shop for about 15 minutes). Okay, 40 days is over. You probably have about 20 faeries. If you don't, keep playing tombola until you do. Put all the faeries into your shop and price them at 3100. Now, go to the chat board and keep posting the message, "Look at my shop! Look at all those faeries! Do you think a newbie can do that???". And suddenly, people will flock to your shop thinking that you are some expert selling tons of faeries. With the money that you earn from that, buy some medium rare things like neggs and kougra plushies from the food and toy shops. Keep restocking your shop with these items and your shop will begin to have regular buyers. Now, try moving onto books and medicines as other options, because you want to grow your shop's popularity as quickly as possible. Keep putting into books that are in the book shop often but sell high in the shop wizard. Keep growing your shop fast until it has about 30 items in it almost constantly. You should be making some steady NP from this now. Refer to the first two sections of this guide once you get at least 10, 000 spare NP (which you will have after the faeries, but you want to have constantly coming in NP first).
Woohoo, it's time for more strategies!!!!!!!!!!!!! I may be going a bit overboard, but who could blame me? If you read the last 3 parts of this "extensive" article, then you would realize I am not very careful with my neopoints. Sure, I can tell other people to be careful, but who says I have to follow my own rules? I live by spending neopoints; not stockpiling them. Of course, you must listen to what I say in my strategies; this is just something I have to say, because I don't want people thinking that doing what I say in my article is the only way to play neopets! And believe me, bankruptcy is not shameful ;).
The True Infinite Well of Neopoints: The Trading Post!!!!!
Ah yes, the trading post has to be the true infinite well of neopoints. Why, you ask? Well, this is the ONLY place where you can package things. A set of sticky hands looks more appealing than just a regular rainbow sticky hand, right? Plus, this is where you can put your rare items, and if someone bids on them, you have some time to do research on what they're offering. But, as well as offering packaging, this is the only place on neopets in which you can offer items instead of neopoints.
Say you wanted a krawk really bad: Would you rather a) get a Krawk transmogrification potion, or b) get 1 million (I don't know how much the krawk is actually worth, it might be 5 million) neopoints to buy one yourself. I would personally go for the 1 million, so I could spend 900, 000 of it on the 3rd (half-price day) ;). But, if the Krawk transmogrification potion was worth 1 million (I don't know for sure; I'm just using these numbers as an example), you really ought to go for the Krawk potion itself. Why? Because people tend to take the worth, add 100, 000 or so, and then put it on the trading post. This way, they may earn money if they bought it for 1 million themselves.
Basically, you can just put your rare items into the trading post, and leave them there for a few decades. Someone's bound to bid on one of your items, but how long it takes depends on the item's worth. For instance, the basic lightning beam I have in the trading post is worth about 150 NP. Would you rather bid on it, or buy it? Buy it, of course. So, if you leave it alone for a years, maybe 20, and come back as a senior citizen, you may have an offer up. But maybe not.
Chomby and the Fungus Balls: How to make 1000-1500 A Day!
In the game Chomby and the Fungus Balls, it is very easy to get 1000-1500 NP every day just from playing it. The idea is so simple, and winning is WAY too easy. Getting the plushie is something that I consider extremely difficult; but getting the neopoints is far easier than nailing a 1200 on this cool game.
I'll explain to you how this is possible, to earn so much from such a simple game everyday. You probably know already, but it is my job to be Captain Obvious, so I'll have to explain ;). You get the same number of neopoints as your score; for example, if you get 277 in the game, you get 277 neopoints. In each level you should get at least 120 neopoints. 130 is medium, and 140 points a level is excellent. You get the score of what your time remaining was+50. So, if you had 80 seconds left, your score would be 80+50, or 130. Okay, if you get 130 for 4 levels in a row, you get 520 neopoints. Do this 3 times a day, and you will get 1560 neopoints a day!
The first level is easy. Rush to the left, and spin the spinny-brown-thingy so that the fungus ball gets trapped outside. Go into the little chamber the fungus ball was once trapped, and grab the star. Now, sneak out of the chamber and rush to the star pad without one of the mushrooms or the fungus ball hitting you.
The second level looks strange, but in truth, it is quite easy. For players newer to this game, wait until one of the mushrooms above you passes you. Then, go up and to the right until you get into the spinny-brown thingy. You should be so that the when you go up, you immediately hit a wall, and when you go any other direction, you immediately hit the spinny-brown thingy. Wait until the fungus ball on the left starts going down to the right chamber, and then burst out of your "prison" and grab the star. Immediately return to your hiding place. Sneak over to the same hiding place on the right side of the second level. Wait until the bottom fungus ball starts moving to the left, and then pounce onto the star pad!
The third level will make the difference between 750 NP a day and 1200 NP a day. Immediately move up, then way down the left corridor, and then down until you hit the starpad. Wait until all 3, or 4 if the outside fungus ball moved inside, of the moving enemies are on the top or bottom of the square corridor, and then move in the opposite way. If all 4 are in the bottom, for example, go up. In the upper corridor, quickly move right and then down. Then turn left into the small "preparation" corridor, but don't head into the final, inner square of corridors. Wait until both mushrooms have passed, and then move in and grab the star. Repeat to get out, and run straight for the starpad!
The next levels don't need guides, as if you can complete the first 3, you are already earning about 1200 NP a day, and maybe even 1300 if you get really good!
Nobody comes to my shop, and even your other tip on this problem didn't help! I'M CRYING NOW!!!
Sometimes, even the tip I gave earlier (about saving up about 20 faeries) doesn't work. The next best, if not the best, thing to do is to run a guild shop. If you get the opportunity to run a guild shop, it doesn't matter whether it's books, medicine, chocolate, or battledome items; GO FOR IT! When you run a guild shop, that means that however many people are in your guild see a link to your shop, and will go there regularly because you have the "important" job of running a guild shop, so your shop must be awesome!
I recommend either start a guild or join a growing guild. The guild I'm in, SCAM STOPPERS!!!, has several openings for running a guild shop. Some of the openings are too good to be true; there's still an opening for BD (battledome) items, chocolates, and even a food shop! What guild shop do I run, you ask? I don't. When you make-up as many get rich schemes as I do, you're guaranteed to go bankrupt once a week. To run a guild shop, you must responsible restock about 4 times a day (seriously). IF, and that's a big IF, I were to run a guild shop, I would restock in the morning, after lunch, in the evening, and before going to bed. But when I restocked, I would restock at least 40+ items.
If you responsibly run a guild shop, your fellow guild members will probably visit often to pick up a few items. If I were part of your guild, I would buy out your shop as soon as I saw it was restocked. But that's just me ;). But, if you responsible run a guild shop, you'll get regular customers who discovered your shop on the shop wizard by coincidence, and decided to bookmark because you were running it so "responsibly".
Conclusion
You've all heard this before, I don't have to say it again. But, I have to repeat this for everyone, don't be like me if you want to actually make some neopoints! I spend neopoints because I want to. If I pick up a faerie for 2500 NP, then I throw into my safety deposit box along with the other 40. I like stockpiling items, and spending neopoints. You shouldn't do that, because you'll lose money.
But, that doesn't mean I'll never be rich ;). If you do decided to follow my method of playing neopets, you'll easily become a millionaire after using my method for about 3-5 months. By then, you'll have so many items stockpiled, that you could sell them for a total income of 1 million NP. The actual profit will probably be something like -507 thousand neopoints; but at the time, you do have 1 million neopoints, so who gives ;).
I hope that helped! My neopets username is Einstein_006! Neomail me and tell me if my guide helped! If it didn't, point out all the mistakes (I hope the saying "Everyone's a critic" is true!!!)! I mean ALL. If I spelled something wrong tell me! But, if the guide helped, neomail me and tell me! I like getting reviews. If you are feeling kind and want to donate something to me because this guide helped you (this is totally and completely optional), only donate small things! You don't want to give away that codestone that could get you 2750-3000 NP!
LOL. My username is Einstein_006! Drop me some mail! I love it ;). I hope that this guide helped! Cya on Neopets!!!!!
