Five Games and How to Get Better at Them

I know we've all seen those 10k a Day articles, telling us that we can make
thousands on np in under an hour. They show off the authors' best game scores
but they don't really help much. What you really need to know is WHY these games
are so good to play and how you can learn to play them better. These are some of
my favorite games, it's true, but hopefully when I pass on what I know to you,
they'll be your favorites as well.
TURMAC ROLL
I remember well when Turmac Roll came out and the Neopets staff warned that it
was 'very addictive'. I think that still stands to this day. It's always the
first game I play when I log on. I usually don't send my score until I get at
least 300 points, but I have got over 1000 before. The points translate directly
to neopoints, so you win whatever amount you score.
The trick with this game is timing. It's usually best to try to jump over an
obstacle at the highest part of the map possible. If you have a big tree stump
for example, don't wait until you get to the bottom of the hill before you jump.
However, if you miss your jump, try to get as close as you can to the bottom of
the obstacle and jump while pressing the right arrow. This usually makes a nice
high straight up jump and gets you over.
NEVER ENDING BOSS BATTLE
My first advice when playing this game: COMPLETELY IGNORE THE CONTROL
INSTRUCTIONS!!! The controls were so annoying the first time I played this I
almost swore never to play it again. The only things you need to know are:
Fire � Space Bar
Turn � Arrow Keys
Forward � Up Arrow
Reverse � Down Arrow
Ignore the strafe and other stuff unless you've used it before and play well
with it. All I managed to do was spin in circles.
Funnily enough, I discovered my strategy for this game when playing a few quick
games before midnight. I sat in one place with Sloth's ship facing me and mashed
the fire key until I died. I figured that I'd get three quick games in before
the next day started. Then I noticed several interesting things. Firstly, Sloth
is a seriously horrible shot, secondly, I can avoid the yellow missiles by
staying in the middle of them, and thirdly, I actually get more points when I
don't try to avoid missiles at all. Most of the missiles that actually hit me
are really ones that I crash into myself (usually the blue ones that I tend not
to worry about because they're such a friendly shade of blue). But if I stay
still, the only ones that hit me are the heat seekers and the red laser on the
front of the ship which doesn't get fired very often.
The only power-ups I go out of my way to get are shields (the blue vortex
thingy) and then I can last another thirty seconds or so and score about another
100 points. I've got my high score (1600 or something) using this method. Before
that it was about 700, so I've more than doubled it.
WHACK A KASS
There was once a time I thought it was impossible to reach the third level of
Whack-A-Kass (the bat). Eventually I looked it up on a guide and I realized that
I wasn't really that far off. One little change in technique can mean a few
hundred meters. The steps are as follows.
1. Wait until the wind speed is at 9. If it isn't, you won't get all possible
power.
2. Click to drop the Kass then click again to hit it. Keep the mouse button held
down.
3. When the Kass is as high as possible, let go and the Kass will flaps its
wings and fly in the wind.
4. When the Kass nears the ground, listen for the noise it makes when it hits
the ground. Unfortunately this means having to put up with the annoying music
between games. When you hear the noise, click the button and Kass will bounce.
Click it every time Kass hits the ground and he might bounce again. I know Kass
bounces anyway, but somehow this works. I got the bat the first time I tried it.
I've made Kass bounce up to five times in a few games, but usually three.
ZURROBALL
The main problem I've found with Zurroball is that your hand gets tired. My
method (slow as it is) is to try and keep the ball in one place and just do
heaps of freestyle clicks with a few accidental left and right zurro tricks
thrown in when I get to close to the side. I find when I start to do boomerangs
(a left and right zurro with only one click in between), grounders (getting the
ball low to the ground � you should hear a noise when you do it but I've never
done it myself) and other difficult tricks, I just lose control. I like the
electricity ball because it's kind of slow and pretty light so it's not hard to
get over the line and it's pretty slow for people without quick reflexes.
The hardest part about this game is that if you keep the mouse in one place as I
try to do, the ball tends to eventually shift a little to one side and you have
to move the mouse suddenly after leaning on it for a while. It sometimes gets a
bit sticky because you're leaning on it for a while to keep your arm from
hurting. The best solution is to have your arm lying across the desk if possible
or if not, horizontal to the mouse, keeping your grip light. This may take some
training, but if you have good arm muscles, you should be fine.
It's common knowledge that you can play with the purple Grundo as the ball if
you click the little 'z' on his shirt, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
USUKI FRENZY
What can you say about this game? Not much, frankly. Except that my high score
is one point away from grand master and as hard as I try, I've never come close
to that since I got that score. Luck is involved a lot when playing this game.
Sometimes you will pick up the wrong item as soon as you walk through a door and
there's nothing you can do. Sometimes all the items will be close together with
few bad ones in between. Sometimes you can't possible reach a good item without
walking over a bad one. It's very random. My only advice is that the Usul seems
to walk faster on a diagonal and going to the room of the right first is quicker
because you aren't doubling back to get to it. I usually play this game if
there's only a few minutes until midnight because it's a few quick neopoints.
Games last less than two minutes.

200m Peanut Dash is fun...But for now, have a go at these games and see if you
