Typing Terror Guide
Written by itsb-a-n-a-n-a-s
The main idea of this game is simple. Just type all the words as they come up on the screen on the clockwork
Grundos coming towards you. Sounds simple, but in order to get maximum points you dont just need to type all the words
as they come. You need to do it quickly, fairly accurately and with a bit of technique, because of the scoring system.
The Scoring System
There are 3 different types of Grundo. Normal, sparking, and the very annoying upside down ones. Normal give you 5 points each, sparking gives you
a massive 100, and upside down ones give you 20. Except in selected levels, which Ill tell you about later, then you should always go for the sparking
ones first, to get the maximum points, then the upside down writing ones, then the normal ones. You also score a bonus at the end of each level based
on your accuracy. This is the percentage of letters you type correctly multiplied by 2, so if you have a perfect score then this bonus should be
200. In the earlier levels its obviously good to get these accuracy points, however I find, as the game goes on, that it is often better to not worry
about accuracy too much, because if you are a reasonably ok typer, like me, I mean, I make a lot of errors in typing but Im reasonably quick, then I
normally end up with accuracy of at least 80% even on the high levels, so you dont lose many points for odd errors.
The Levels, and tactics for each one.
Level 1: This is so easy you could do it blindfolded. Well, actually, no you couldnt because you need to see the screen to type the words in, but you
know what I mean. Everyone should be able to do this level, without too much practice. You need to kill 12
Grundos on this level to pass, but all the words are only 3 letters long on each
Grundo. The first few times you play this game, it is probably a good idea just to kill all the
Grundos as soon as you see them, just to get a feel of the game, but once youve got used to
it, then you can gain a lot more points from this level by waiting until all the
Grundos are quite near you before you kill them. This makes the level last longer, giving you more of a chance to get upside down and sparking
Grundos, which give you more points. However, with this strategy, be careful that you know roughly how long itll take you to get rid of the approaching
Grundos, so you give enough time to get rid of them before they crash into the screen, losing you one of your 3 precious lives in this early level.
Level 2: Again, you probably wont have a problem with this level. The words are all 4 letters long this time, but other than that, things are pretty
much the same. You could use the strategy mentioned before in this level, however if you are a beginner this may make you lose a life, so be careful,
and just kill them slightly earlier than you did in level 1 as the longer words make them harder to kill. You need to kill 14
Grundos to finish this level.
Level 3: 5 letters per word, and 16 Grundos need to be killed to finish the level (are you seeing the pattern here :>) ).Be a bit more careful this time
as the words are getting longer. \When I play, I carry on with the strategy I use in the first 2 levels, to maximise points, however, I like to get rid
of the Grundos by the time theyre halfway down the screen, because this seems to give me enough time to kill them all, but play it yourself a few
times to get the feel of how long you need.
Level 4: 18 Grundos to kill, and, surprise surprise, 6 letters per word. This level is where I stop using the strategy from earlier levels, and start
trying to just kill them all, so I dont lose lives. I still like to kill all sparking and upside down
Grundos first though, because of the huge point difference between them and normal, and also, because its harder to kill
the upside down ones, as you have to master the art of reading words when theyre upside down,
Level 5: Many people say that this is the hardest level. Personally Ii find the next level harder, but a lot of people dont like this, because theres
7 letters per word, 20 Grundos to kill, and you just have to type as quickly as possible to get rid of them all. I dont worry about accuracy in this
level, and also dont worry too much about the point values of each Grundo, just kill them as they come, until you get really good at this level.
Final Level: This is the one timed level. You have 60 seconds to type all 25 words, at 8 letters per word. This is normally manageable, as it is easier
to see the words than in past levels as there are no problems with things being in front or upside down letters. I find it quite hard, because I seem
to type the whole word and then realize I got one letter wrong and so I have to type all of it after that letter again, but if youre a more accurate
typer than me then you shouldnt have too much of a problem with this. This level is just about typing the words as fast as you can, and so you dont
need to worry about different point values.
Ok, thanks for reading my guide, I hope it helps you eventually get that avatar, and a final tip to remember is not to get distracted by the odd
choice of words. Many words I have never heard of on this game that you are being asked to type, so dont think about it as you are typing, because it
puts you off, but just concentrate, practice and maybe even follow my guide, and hopefully you should be getting high scores soon.
