Volcano Run Guide
Written by Emeraldscribble
'Ey there you Wanna' Be Volcano Runners! If you've played the game before, then
you'll know that it's extremely difficult. BUT, once you get the hang of it, it can be an extremely easy game to get
1000np 3 times a day in.
Let's start from the VERY beginning, the computer speed. It DOES come into play believe it or not. The slower a computer, the more reaction
time you have, thus, it's better than a fast computer.
Now, you know your computer speed, you also might want to know what window size to use. Always use the biggest possible. You want to be able
to see the whole game, but bigger is better. (again, you have more reaction time).
Now, you have the game opened on your hopefully slow computer: What now? Let's start off with the map of the game. There are two main
"Routes" with crystals at the end, and in between the routes, there are "Tunnels". Each
"Tunnel" is a narrow, horizontal, and short path. Now, the two types of routes:
1) The "Big Room" - It's the one that takes up the whole screen, and has three crystals at the end, also some fire-bullets. This is the easy
route, now for the hard one.
2) The "Long Tunnel" - It's the one that looks like, well, a long tunnel. It's very narrow, and has many rocks falling down and rising up.
At the beginning is a sheild (usually) and at the end; three crystals and some fire-bullets.
Okay, so you know what the game looks like, but what are the components? Well,
there's YOU, the Scorchio. Then, there are fire-bullets. Found at the "Big Room" and the end of the
"Long Tunnel". They are usually easy to dodge, but are deadly against Shields. Then, there are rocks.
These go up and down, and are easy everywhere except the "Long Tunnel". Next: Crystals. You ALWAYS want to get these,
they're like a shortcut in the game. The only exception is when you don't have a shield,
and are close to 2000, using crystals might rise you over that mark, and you can't get another one. It may seem like they make you go faster,
but they make you gain some bonus points (which, since points make you go faster, sure, it makes you go faster sooner, BUT you get the points
too). Found at the end of both Routes. And finally:
SHIELDS! These will ONLY appear at the beginning of the "Long Tunnel" and will only appear up to the 2000 point mark. After that mark, by
typing "lava", you can restore the shield (only used once per game). You always want to get these, no matter what, no excuses, THEY GIVE YOU A
SECOND CHANCE! That's a nice advantage.
Those are the components, now YOU'RE READY TO PLAY! You usually start off right before a
"Long Tunnel", so be ready. Get that shield, and away you go. Until you reach 100 points, nothing moves. Once you reach
100 though, they start their action. - Be aware of that. Of course, you hold down the mouse button to rise, and let go to fall. You fall
quicker than rise, so it's generally easier to go BELOW an object, because you can go under it quicker. WHEN YOU CAN -
it's good to go above an object, however.
USE THAT SPACE BAR! It's there to help you! It's sort of like a brake. Holding it down makes you move backwards (NOT STOP). While letting go
lets you go forwards (to a point). Now, this is all fine and dandy, but how do you know when to use it? SIMPLE - Use it when either you, or a
falling rock in front of you is not at the height you need it to be in order to safely pass.
SCENARIO #1 - You are in the "Long Tunnel" and a rock is RISING right in front of you. You want to Let go of the mouse so that you fall, and
press the space bar to let you fall farther than you normally would have by the
rock's point. Once past the rock, click the mouse again, and let go of space as soon as possible.
SCENARIO #2 - You are [Anywhere] and you are right in front of a FALLING rock. You click your mouse to go up, AND, you hold the space bar to
go farther up than you would have normally by the rock's point. Once past, let go of the mouse and the spacebar as soon as possible.
Now that you've played, a quick note on pointing. This game gives you 33np for every 100 points you earn.
DON'T make the mistake of thinking that if you stop at 3,000 points, that you'll get 1,000np. YOU
WON'T, you MUST wait until 3,033np, because it won't take out EXACTLY one third.
